I just acquired for my wife an '89 190E 2.6.

So far we like it, the PO spent well over 1/2 what I paid for it in the last 3 months on tires/AC service. It was to be for his son, but the son didn't want "an old Mercedes."

    Anyone have any experiences/warnings?

Nice buy! I've come close to buying a 2.6 5sp a few times. I've heard nothing but good things about the car and engine in general (supposed to be the best of the 190 series). Not much experience with automaticss from this model though.

Mercedes from that era were very well put together and reliable... I'd much rather have your car than a C or E ten years newer...

Cool car! From what I've gathered (which isn't small) its really reliable, but its a 22 year old car so a lot of things need to be overhauled. It sounds like you got a good one!

It is really making me want to find a 2.6 5spd and boosting the snot out of it, putting in a 3.0l DOHC M104, or both.

But I don't know if I could go to such a "mass market" type car. My last 3 have been X1/9 / XR4ti / Milano.

I like being the guy with the "odd cars"

I need a Matra Bagheera, Biturbo, 505 Turbo, or something unique. :D
