Do you ever see those ads that make you go "What are they thinking?" 1992 Toyota Celica with 138,000 miles. Wrecked. What's it worth? Maybe $900?

    http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/2316355985.html

Yours for a cool $5,488. Really? That's just insane.

Some dealers post any old crap. When I was researching Impreza wagons last year, there was one dealer that had a '99 Outback Sport with 120,000+ miles and quarter panel damage that was visible from space. They were asking $10,000 to start and over the course of 6 months it went down to about $8k.

Just curious... what makes you think it's wrecked?

It's a $1500-$2000 car at best, though. But, i don't think it's wrecked. These cars had huge overhang. It looks awful up front because it's missing a trim piece below the lights. Quick $10 junkyard fix.

Otherwise, it looks decently clean, and the 92-93 cars were a huge step up from the 90-91s.

If it was close and priced at $1500, i'd snatch it up. Great DD.

I wouldn't call this wrecked, either. Though, the missing trim piece in the front, and what looks like (could just be the poor quality of CL photos) "minor" damage of some sort to the lower edges of both front fenders (like this car may have hit a low shelf / curb or something) would warrant a good, up close inspection.

Mileage for the year is decent, and the wheels and manual transmission are a plus, but being a stock ST is an outweighing minus. Just me, I wouldn't pay more than $3500, and that assumes it has working A/C.

If the rest of the country priced used/abused cars like they do here in Atlanta, there would be no excuse for everyone on this forum to participate in BABE, Lemons, Chump, and GRM Challenge. I wouldn't use car prices from the 'A' as the litmus test...

kbb Kelly Blue Book says it would be 3K if it were in excellent condition, which it isn't.

Geez. Talk about wrong and wrong. (Not you, the ad posters)

First one is a 92, yes... but not the last year of that style. $900 for a non-running clean automatic GT coupe is steep, unless you live in a rust belt where you don't see clean cars. I paid $600 for my minty 92 GT hatch not running (and it was actually a bad dizzy.), and i don't even live in Atlanta.

Second one isn't a 93. Price is actually quite decent if it's as nice as it looks, though.

$3500 would be generous, though with that mileage, you could reasonably expect to put another 100k miles on that car with minimal problems. A stock 92-93 ST would actually make for a nice autox toy. Lightest available, the coupe bodies are stiffer and handle better, and the 92-93s got 5-lug wheels and 4 wheel disc. They really aren't bad cars.
