Since there are so many what car threads, what car would you recommend to the guy who stole your girlfriend, fired you, lost your iPod, backed over your cat...and then asked you what kind of cool used car he should buy? (This didn't happen to me BTW, its just a thread starter) I'm thinking anything French...

In addition to the inhuman suffering the car will inflict upon him with it's "reliability" and "performance," being anywhere near this car in space or time will prevent him from getting laid. It may have trouble bringing itself to a stop but this thing will stop sex like a set of ABS-controlled Brembo 6-pots.
I dare anyone to find a better answer.

You must be joking!
While there's probably a nasty social stigma to driving one in the States, they're not unreliable and can actually perform decently. They're good AutoX cars and a cult car in the Caribbean.
A popular mod is to drop in a 1.3L engine and a turbocharger (although some models actually come like this IIRC!), then you have a little four-wheeled sportbike. Street racers love them for dragging, it's not uncommon to see them driving around raked forward with 3" of ground clearance, skinny wheels on the rear and big, wide, low-pressure R-compounds on the front. In fact now that I think of it that sounds far more dangerous than a sportbike or banshee.

A Stirling. Because you could sell him on how it combines Honda reliability with British luxury - then watch him find out that it doesn't hold up like a Honda and a lot of the parts are completely impossible to find. The bait and switch aspect of it gives it extra cruelty points in my books.

Taurus SHO, sounds awesome in theory till something goes wrong with the engine then all you have is a 20 year old Taurus sitting in the driveway.

An auto Ford Festiva. Not the cool Festivas, but the late 80s early 90s ones.
The ones that had about 48hp. Crank.
Enjoy watching him get leveled by a semi the first time he tries to merge onto a highway.
Bonus points if the exhaust rusted off.

I forgot about the Sterling. They did it backwards though and combined 80's british reliability with Honda styling.

This Daewoo was sold in the US as the 1991 Pontiac LeMans.
A prestigious French race who's' name was bastardized by an American Car company and the attached to its lowest offering which was built in Korea. No connection to the race.
No connection the US heritage of muscle cars.
No connection to the "buy American" sentiment of its day.

IIRC the models like the one in the pic I posted couldn't be sold in the states because they didn't meet DOT safety standards. This was in the mid/late 90s when safety standards were much lower than today's standards (ahh the good ol' days).

There are a lot of crappy cars, but if the question is what is the crappiest car you could talk someone into buying, the Sterling will be tough to beat.

No, the LeMans was available in the US in both 2dr and 4 dr. Currently, a 1991 Lemans 2dr Value Leader Model has a trade in value of $50 and a full retail of $365
