A friend is importing a few cars, always room for one more. He says his friend in Austria is letting the 1970 280 go cheap.
What's cheap?
What's fair?

Image no worky and I have no idea what a 1970 280 is, so I say $236.23.
on a scale of 1 to 10, a 1970 280 is a nice car.
I say a buck three ninety eight.
Which 280 (ie S-class or "regular" W114)?
280 W114s are a little bit collectible in Europe by now (as are W108s) so I'd be a bit wary of a cheap one.
OK, picture this.
A MB Gullwing but convertable. White, red interior, black cloth roof and Euro headlights.
I doubt I can afford the shipping, let alone the car.
Pass.
Would you mean a Mercedes 280 SL? Aren't many of the Mercedes cars unibody designs? If this car is one of them, it could be the kind of car best bought when an expert is present to inspect it. If the price was ridiculously cheap...shipping MIGHT be worth it. What's ridiculously low? Under $2K.
Like this?
I looked at these about 10 years ago when a nice driver might set you back $10-15K and a really nice one might top $20K. Apparently they've gone up. NADA low retail is $27,400 and high is $85,100. The one pictured above is for sale for $175,000.
