I too would like to see a twin turbo leaning tower of power.

This is the part where everybody psychs eachother out about how super awesome their project is. We'll see how reality affects these ambitions in about 8 months.

With the room in my budget the Miata is getting an alignment and I might add a radio. You're all screwed, lol

I really hope everyone comes through with these promises... We're committed to our build, and I'd love some good competition.

Mine is built already. Just a question of whether or not it shows up with another 50hp or so.

Is it bad to have a bottle as backup if turbo budget falls short?

If I can sell off enough to recoup, I may show up with a stock 7M-GE Mk III Supra in the "sub 1000" category.
(If I can continue to budget well, I might be at the 2011 with an LS powered MkIII Supra vying for overall!

BAH. Silly maroon! don't you know you need a rx7 or civic to win overall?

There's budget left for that... And the motor will take a bit more than a baby bottle. There's a thread i was reading on MX6.com in which some dude was trying to kill his old F2T in preparation for an FE3 swap. He played with one of those Holset Variable Vane turbos, got sick of waiting for it to blow at 25psi, and started throwing nitrous at it. It survived a 50 shot on top of 25psi, a 100 shot, a 150 shot. It finally died on a 200 shot. After being driven up and down his street for about 8 passes, then it melted a cylinder, but still ran. A conservative power number would probably be 500whp, and well over 600wtq at meltdown.

I think that's the direction I'm headed as well.

My clutch was completely unprepared for the NOS last year. Pushed the button and the motor just made more noise. New clutch disc this year.

Definitely AFTER a nitrous run, for sure.

True... that WOULD ensure my full track burnout.

Well the deal didn't go down and I don't have a challenge car. I was going to build a formula vee with a turbochaged 2.0l type IV vw engine. I looks like that engine will just go into the Ghia.
I have started reading about how to build my next real project, but don't know if it will be a challenge car. I am thinking about building myself a Miata based locost. I have been driving a Miata latly and it has grown on me.

The math says 10.06 @ 135 the math did not ask questions about the clutch or getting it to hook. If we run within a second of that I will be more than happy. The diff in the drag trans is out and ready for welding tomorrow along with making up a few other traction aids.

i found a really straight but really worn '71(?) dart swinger with a V8 / automatic today. parked by the side of the road with a for sale sign on it, with no phone number and no asking price. WTF? i think it would make a rockin' alternative Trans Am / American Sedan tribute car for the challenge.

This gets my vote. Please do the slant six with twin hairdryers like a BMW.74 Dart w/5.7HEMI or turbo slant 6
Mine too :)
I had actually planned to turbo the slant in my '70 Valiant for $2010 and had most of the parts to build it but ended up having to sell everything off because I was short on time and cash due to a home remodel and my money pit Supra. Fortunately it went to a good home and I made about $1200 off everything, including passing along a $90 60 trim T3/T4 to a team member for his $2010 build.
Beginnings of my build with some info here: http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37609

Budget question:
if I bought a set of racing seats but only use the driver seat at the challenge can I count half the purchase price toward the budget?
