My daughter's '02 Impreza has power locks but no remote. My plan is to buy the remote receiver and fob from one of the bazillion boyracer-totalled WRXes over on NASIOC.

On the GC generation, there was a little black receiver box under the dash on the driver's side. It also required a short but separate pigtail harness to jack into the chassis harness (I assume so the same receiver could be used with different models).

Can anybody confirm if this same setup was used in the '02-'03 cars? Anybody got one for sale? Thanks.

Could the remote just have been lost and it needs a new one programmed rather than the whole system?

I can check under my dash this evening to see if that setup is used.

No, the car wasn't built with one I don't believe. It was an option on the RS/TS (though I assume standard on the WRX, not sure). Thanks for any input you can find out.

I'll try to check as well. I have an 02 wrx with keyless, and I installed keyless in my 2000 2.5rs. Might have a spare one from a GC as well, can't remember if I pitched the one that came with the race car or not. If you'd consider new, subarugenuineparts.com has the control module for $95 and transmitter for $51. This is one of those items that might be false economy to buy used.

I talked with them about a year ago, and they said the part was discontinued and no longer available!

I have one I bought for the GC but I was never able to turn up the subharness to go with it. Thanks for the info.

If you get in a bind, you can just grab the factory install kit, remote included. Not as common as they used to be, but the price is certainly right. $76

I really should grab one for my '02 before they're discontinued.

    [edit]

Well, I tried. "Item must be picked up at dealership." I'm not driving to Erie PA for that, but maybe I'll call them and see if they will ship.

Well, if that's there, I'm going to buy it. Subaru Genuine Parts told me this was discontinued!

    Thanks.
