So lets hear it. What was your first car and what are you driving now. It might be interesting to see how board folks got where they are with their rides.

First car: '82 Cadillac Cimarron. Aka "the gutless blunder" aka "the B-mobile", aka "Loki's Bitch". The only good thing about that car was that I didn't give a E36 M3 about it. I had one friend who drove it once. He was convinced the car was trying to kill him.

    Now driving: a 99 BMW M Coupe' and a '94 Miata.

1972 GMC 1500 supercustom short bed stepside, full dynomax exhaust with glasspacks and side exit pipes, rebuilt and bored over something I don't remember, too bad i didn't know then that I'd need new plug wires I'd have sold the truck for way more, that thing was a tank. I was 16 and stupid lol.

There was a Chrysler Cirrus in between. It didn't suck as bad as the Cimarron. It just had a propensity to break engine mounts.

The Cimarron and Cirrus were cast-offs from the grandparents.

The BMW was bought with college graduation gift money. I feel vaguely self-conscious about this.

The Miata is the first car I truly bought entirely on my own.

My sister gave me her '54 Plymouth Savoy when she "graduated" to a '67 Mustang. That Savoy was THE UGLIEST CAR Chrysler ever produced. 40 years and 24 cars later, I'm driving an Integra LS...a '92, but I'm always looking for it's replacement. Hope to go with a 4 cylinder, manual tranny sedan, but if I was younger/more limber, I'd be looking at or even driving a "vintage" Miata.

It just was a example of the journey we have with our different cars and where we are now with what we drive.

1974 AMC Javelin SST; 360ci V8, 4Bbl, 727 Torque-Flite Auto, Twin-Grip rear. It was a total pile and I had it sold for parts before I even made it home. At which point I inherited a 1991 Subaru Loyale 4-door sedan with the flat-4 and an auto (FWD bleh) that needed work. I got it running and sold it for a tidy profit quickly and bought myself a 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody pickup, king cab, Z24 (the one with 2 plugs/cylinder) and a 5-Speed (2WD). So any of them could be "first" (Javelin was first car, Subie was first car more then 6 hours, truck was first to get driven more then around the block and first to title/tag).

In-between, somewhere around 100 cars (I think), but only 20 or so that were actually title/tagged/driven, all of the others were parts cars or buy/fix/sell right away deals.

    Now:

1983 Mazda RX-7 GSL, 12A Rotary, 5-Speed, LSD, 232K miles, never been rebuilt

    and

    2001 Ford Police Interceptor P71, 4.6L SOHC V8, 4R70W Auto, Trac-Loc, 131K, necer been rebuilt

Learned to drive in a 69 Datsun 510 Wagon & 65 Chevelle (4-door w/190 cid I6 & Powerglide AT, NO power steering or brakes and the brakes were drum F&R). Drove the Chevelle mostly since I blew the engine in the Datsun. Once, way back then (in SoCal) driving the Chevelle, I got beat between lights by a Pinto w/4 adults in it. Now I drive a 99 Miata which I tell the wife is my economy car vs the 95 F150 XLT Xtended cab w/tow package I keep for hauling.

First car I drove regularly was a 1984 Toyota Tercel 4WD wagon with 5 forward speeds and approximately as many horsepower. First car I owned was a Sublime Green 1973 Dodge Challenger with a 318, a 904 Torqueflite, and a factory shop manual. I still miss that car occasionally. It was supplemented with a 1973 BMW 2002 with a hot motor, sidedrafts, and more rust than steel. I rattle-canned it blue and white and drove it until it started to frighten me regularly. Between the latter two cars many interesting automotive adventures were had.

The Challenger gave way to a 1983 BMW 533i that served daily driver duties for nine years, finally succumbing to terminal rust at 238k miles. The 73 02 was replaced with a better 74, which I still own 14 years later. The 533i was replaced with a 1999 Saab 9-5 that broke frequently and sucked the automotive enthusiasm from my veins. My current DD replaced it, a 2001 BMW 525i, which I've had for little over a year.

I feel I'm becoming a bit too predictable, frankly.

First: 1992 Nissan 240SX coupe. Blown head gasket; blown piston ring; overheated easily; rotted frame rails and rocker panels; smoked like a 5-alarm fire; old man car gold; speedometer, odometer, and IC lights didn't work; and it was an autotragic. Somehow, it survived one very long year of use and abuse.

Current: '98 Subaru Impreza (daily driver) and '87 Mazda RX-7 (project car). Both manuals, both running, the Scooby runs like a top, and only minor issues with the FC3S.

In 1995 I was the second owner of a low miles (about 57,000) 1964 Plymouth Savoy two door sedan. Only option was a push button automatic, everything was removed. Factory radio delete, manual steering, manual brakes. And it was awesome. Sadly, sold less than a year after acquiring the car, had a parent that didn't like the thing and I was short on money so it was hard to keep it.

I'd buy it back in a heart beat if it was an option, but I believe the guy that I "had" to sell it to still has it and won't let it get away.

1970 Monte Carlo, brown, dents, rust, 350 w/ quadrajet 4bbl, auto and a 10 bolt posi rear. It looked like a hunk of E36 M3, but it ran like a monster. I bought in the spring of 1985 for $800 from a girl who tossed it into the woods on a snowy day and sold it 2yrs later for $750... to a guy who not too long afterward shot and killed his little brother in some sort of manic depressive 17yr old mania.

I always wondered what became of it after they put him away.

1984, I became the proud owner of a '67 Triumph GT6. Now have a Miata, a Volvo S40 and a Subaru Legacy wagon.

The GT6 had more personality than all three combined. It was also more likely to kill me. This is progress.
