What options are available for Yugo strut inserts? I am swapping to X1/9 struts on the front but what options are there? Or are there strut inserts (Konis or something better then KYBs or Gabriels) which can be modified to fit?

I think they aren't struts but shocks in the rear, correct?

I think that you might be able to take some measurements and perhaps find some bike shocks that will fit with some work.

    Shocks in the rear.

Best I ever did on mine was KYB GR2s, very hard to find anything else and even the KYBs are hard to come by. They did a fine job though.

I vaguely recall A1 Rabbit strut inserts could be modified to fit but its been a few years so my memory may be incorrect.

A1/MK1 KYB strut inserts work in the X-1/9 strut housings. Only the KYB ones though, the Koni's are too large to fit apparently.

The X uses struts all around and they are essentially the same front/rear with the exception of where on the housing the strut mounting bracket is welded. If you want some X housings to play let me know, I have some I think :)

I am guessing the X1/9 racers use something other then KYBs. I was kinda thinking about bike shocks in the rear but I couldn't remember if they were shocks or struts in the rear. Does the leaf spring locate the rear suspension as well as act as a spring?

The racers use these....if you want $2500 struts on your Yugo they are a great option. Otherwise...its KYB. http://www.gforceengineering.net/fiat_products.htm

Here's a good article on modifying the vw rabbit inserts http://www.mirafiori.com/~ulix/x19/rabbitstruts/index.html

What size strut fits? Physical size.

    Any chance would that work.

my personal opinion is anything can be made to work, if you can do a little fab work :) But honestly the KYBs are fine. Suspension was never the weak point of my car once we had it dialed in.

Where can I find KYBs for the car?

A buddy with an x1/9 adapted a non fiat fittament coilover setup on his. I want to say it was an MR2 or something like that. I'll ask him and find out.

for the fronts you want the inserts for the X1/9

For the rear I swear I bought the last set of KYBs for a Yugo a few years ago, they were hard to find, you may need to take some measurements and get something "close enough"
