Having survived its competition debut and proved its mettle despite a thorough lack of preparation, we're pressing ahead with our STU autocross prepped Z Car project. The first of our suspension bits arrived yesterday: A set of adjustable front upper control arms from SPC. The stock 350Z has no provision for camber or caster adjustment in the front end—something highly important to autocross performance. These SPC arms give us adjustments of both those parameters, but we'll have to do some careful measuring—and perhaps some light fabrication—to ensure they meet the letter or the law for SCCA Solo Street Touring work.

Before we start turning wenches, though, the Z will be introducing staffer Nancy Gomes—who's in charge of making sure that everyone who subscribes to the magazine actually gets it each month—to the exciting world of autocross. The SCCA will be holding one of their Starting Line schools in Central Florida, and rookie Nancy will be taking the plunge. She reports she's "thoroughly terrified" but is more than willing to take one for the team. We prepped the car for her, which mostly consisted of a quick wipedown and interior cleaning to remove the road funk from the Dixie Tour. We think she'll do fine.

Who doesn’t dig Datsuns? We love Sentras, S13s, Dimes, and Z cars new and old. Subscribe to Grassroots Motorsports now.
