If you'd be OK with something that bridges the gap between retro and modern, Kawasaki's Z900. There are a lot of little chrome scents available that real set it off. I saw one a few years ago and did a double take. I thought someone modernized an old Z1.

I've gotten that reaction when I get asked about my Z900rs.  "What year is that bike?" is a really common question.  Mine is the brown & orange like the second one you posted.

That's the color that made me double take. It looks fantastic,  and I hate brown on anything that moves.

BMW G310GS. 313cc fuel injected single cyclinder. 169 kilos, 372 lbs. It'll go 90 mph and 0-60 in 6.5 secs, as fast as a quick car. Strangly, no side cases available but the aftermarket will gladly provide. I think it's the best looking BMW motorcycle.

I LOVE that Ducati Scrambler and Kawa Z900RS. Oh E36 M3 there's a 2018 Z900RS in old-school brown/orange at a dealer down the street from work...

The XSR and z900RRS are very intersting to me. The seem to be the modern interpretation of the CX500: a well engineered, all-around street bike. You wouldn't want to race them, but they are sportier than a cruiser. You wouldn't want to ride to Alaska, but the can handle a longer ride now and then.  They are a bit above my price target, but perhaps by summer.

My only concern is that they seem sportier than I am ready for. That's not a bad thing however, I can always grow into them. Now you've got me really thinking!

The Z900rs is a modern interpretation of the Z1.  The CX500 has nothing to do with this at all.  The CX500 is kind of cool!  But it's not this;

I actually picked the Z900rs to tour on but it needs wind protection and I haven't gotten that worked out yet.  I bought the factory center stand add-on, I've installed a top box, and I have racks for side cases and case guards still in boxes waiting for me to be less lazy.

Around town the SV650 still seems hard to beat out of the options available in the USA.
