1986 Buick Century. 4 doors and a 2.8 v6 with the worst brakes in the world. I eventually got rid of it when the steering rack went bad.
I've never had the money for a cool car, sadly.

My first was a 1992 Saab 900S that I bought from a friend of my dad's who worked for a junkyard. He had picked it up with the intention of fixing the front end damage and driving it himself, but ended up doing a quick repair and selling it to me instead. You can see the missing front left corner in this pic, which I took the night that I bought it.
I paid $900 for it with fresh primer spots, blown airbag, and 80k miles on the odo, but it was mine. I drove it for nearly 10k miles before the trans gave up. I'm sure my abuse had something to do with it. Sold it for $1k with the primer spots and blown trans and bought my '87 EXP Sport Coupe.
Funny tidbit: The only reason I bought the Saab (my dad and I didn't even know wtf a Saab was at the time), was that my mom wouldn't let me buy the '78 Spitfire that the same guy was selling. I had given him a down payment on the Spit and went home and told Mom. She told me I needed to get my money back. She had no idea what kind of odd car collection she was causing me to start.
Last time I saw the car, it was for sale on Saabnet, but still here in Louisville. The guy who bought it had replaced the transmission, and forgot the refill portion of 'drain and refill' when changing the fluid in the new trans. He was disgusted and decided to sell it. I have no clue what happened to it after that. Probably scrapped.

1949 plymouth coupe in 76, it had a flathead 6 and ran until my dad "helped" me change plugs and wires by removing all the wires at once. Never ran again, if I only new then what I know now
You could pull the front bench all the way up, recline the seatback and it fit flush with the back bench. A flat padded fullsize bed!

My first car was a 1994 Cavalier that I was handed down from my mother. It wasn't too bad really. 3.1 V6 and only like 25,000 miles when I got it.
I drove it for a little over two years and ended up selling it to a girl who wrecked it after like 2 months. Here's how it looked when I got rid of it.
The first car that I bought MYSELF - was my 04 Dodge SRT4. Here it is the day I brought it home:
Almost six years (and a crap load of time and money) later and I still own the car.

1974, I was 14 and spent all summer mowing lawns so I could buy my friends brothers car. 1969 Shelby Mustang with a bad starter....$450!!
Pull started it and I drove it home and my Dad had a cow!! Turns out I was too young, it would use too much gas, I would kill myself in it and I was an idiot! Looking back, I believe that all were accurate and valid.
I had to take it back and got $400 back got a 67 Mustang 6 cylinder next summer...wrecked it!
I still see the Shelby occasionally.....

First car was an 80 Sunbird. My uncle helped me put a 327 in. Funny thing about those cars is when you cap off the power steering instead of replacing it they don't turn too well. This car lasted all of a week before it was taken away. In that week it drove on more lawns then it did road. I know where the motor is an if the S.O.B ever dies I'll go get it back.

Mine was a 1961 Pontiac Catalina. You mentioned your dad's first car...my dad's first car was a 1919 Model T Ford; he bought it when he was a high school senior in 1929.
My grandfather's was the same (not sure of the year) and he paid $5 for it in the late 1930s.

The one pictured is not actually mine... but it was close. 1983 Chevy Blazer with miscellaneous GMC Jimmy parts.
No radio. (epic loss for a 16 year old.) No heat. Coolant leaked into the cabin. (heatercore issue paired with last issue perhaps) Wipers stopped working when wet. Leaky tires. 4 wheel drive that didn't work. Driver seat that had 2 positions 100% reclined or just 95% reclined.That truck was horrible, but was a donut machine!

Plymouth Voyager - grey oxidized paint. Dry rotted tires (great for HS parking lot squealing), no AC, and a funny smell. Yeaaaaah.

I had a rusty 70 Torino for a few months before this, and split a vw bug with a friend before that, but the 72 Maverick is the one I consider my first real car paid for insured, and maintained, and driven by me and only me. It had a massaged factory HP302, and the auto tranny was converted to reverse the gear pattern with a floor mounted slap shifter added. along with a bunch of modifications i did long the way. it ran a 13.26 1/4 mile and I once spun the rear tires off the rims in the high school parking lot (10" rear with locker.)
I owned it from 85 or so to 90, when i sold it in sw florida. last i heard it was still in use as a drag car, but who knows...
As for picking up girls, yeah, this car worked well, but they all had big hair , wore leather, and chewed gum like cows...

I currently own one of those! It sucks so bad, but it was free. Getting ready to fix it up a bit and sell it.
My first car was a '68 VW Type 3 Fastback. Diamond blue, just like this one:
but way crappier and more rusty. I bought it when I was 14 for $400 using paper route money, back in 1992. My mom ran it out of oil and seized the engine before I got my license, so for the first year of driving I drove my mom's 1984 Toyota Cargo Van. Just like this one except it was white.
It had no interior in the back except for a carpet, so I put a recliner, a bean bag chair, and some giant pillows back there. It was awesome.

I loved it. The induction sound through the steel wool filtered SU's was great, and the spherical joint linkage provided the best throttle control I have experienced by a long shot. The turning radius was insane. I spent allot of time looking out the doors while sideways on fire service roads around Big Bear California in it.

I hitchhiked around Australia in 1985 and was really impressed with the sedans. I was also really impressed with how often I would get a ride with somebody and not see another car for hours and hours. I loved Australia.

Mine was an '80 El Camino with a V6.
After I obtained my second car, an '80 Mustang 4 cylinder with a worn out engine (and sucessfully swapped it out for a junkyard engine myself), I convinced my dad that we should put the old 283 that he'd had forever into the El Camino.
The 283 sounded GREAT with some cheap headers and dual exhaust. The shift kit in the TH350 allowed me to bark the tires into second gear at will. It wasn't fast, but was darn reliable.
