hi all.

i am trying to get the worn rear sprocket off my beast that has these same wheels.

it looked like some of you guys have some knowledge about these, and i just got this thing so i've got lots of catch up to do.

how the bloody hades do i get that rear sprocket off?

btw, i've got the rear wheel off, i just can't break into that dang sprocket housing.

I just gave a CM400 to my brother, and we had the wheel off. I'm not sure I understand you.

looks like every other cush drive I've disassembled. if the studs are spinning, you should be able to pry it out of the cush drive & use a vice/vice grips to hold them while you pull the nuts. Otherwise, just use an impact wrench.

hey! thank a lot for the response.

per the schematic, item 19 is a huge ring clip which is holding what looks like a 'sprocket housing' to the rear side of the brake drum. ('sprocket housing' as in: the sprocket doesn't seem to bolt directly to the wheel, it looks like it bolts inside this casing which is then reassembled back onto hub) the 4 bolts float independently of the hub; i can take the nuts all the way off and the sprocket housing is still held together by this clip ring that is too wide for anything i've found at conventional hardware stores.

this is the first time i'm breaking into one of these so maybe i'm waay off. i just think it ought to be a heck of a lot easier.

ohhhk. I see the clip now. I don't have a better answer though,try to get a picture showing the circlip.

Some bikes (all that I've done) don't have that circlip.

Yeah, 19 is a snap ring, and it certainly looks like you'll have to get it out to access the cush drive. For that size ring, you should be able to source some snap ring pliers from just about any auto parts store (I think).

thanks for the help guys. i ended up going to Sears and getting LARGE snap ring pliers. like these:

the small ones at most stores aren't anywhere near big enough.

the circlip came off and spocket replacement was easy.
