    Hi, all:

My friend's mother has a 1987 190E with 112k on it. It was remarkably well maintained and in babied condition. It of course was recently totaled in an accident and of course they are lowballing her on the value.

I've asked for more details on the car itself, but does anybody have ideas on valuation, or sources for information that can be used to improve the total-out check?

    Thanks.

Old, high mileage, low level Merc, you'll be lucky to see $2500. Insurance settlement value is one of the few reasons to not drive an older car.

$2500-$3k seems about right in my area.

Yup, same here. Might get a bit more for a diesel in nice shape, but a gasser, $2500-3K is about the going rate around here.

kbb.com, private party value. Fill out the options and condition accurately. Should get you close to reality. Those cars simply don't have much of a following. No one buys those but poseurs who think the logo will impress their neighbors, and those kind of people are so cheap they won't pay real money for one. Not a fair reflection on the car, but that's what market it winds up in.

psssshhhh...prolly not worth squat. Its a shame, really, that your mom has to hold on to a worthless old hunk like that 190...so I tell ya what, just to be a pal, I will come and take away that nuisance for her. I wont even charge anything for the gas to get it back home...I mean to the juunkyard.

In all honesty, I wanna swap something V8 and fuel injected into a 190 and hoon around in it...thats probably somewhere near the latter 3rd of my top ten projects list...
