I gotta admit, the original was the only movie that made me jump. I still stuff it in the DVD player once in a while.

    What's "Alien?"

Kidding. But I didn't think it was that scary.

You dang kids who grew up with CGI. Y'all have no idea what it was like compared to the horror and sci fi flicks of the era, where you could see zippers on the costumes. Alien was the bleeding edge of costume and animatronics etc. at the time.

I remember going to see Alien and having no idea it was a scary movie, I just thought it was a Sci-fi movie. It scared the hell out of me!

That's what I hate about trailers they ruin the show for you.

Not to steal the thread, but if you intend to see Paranormal Activity DO NOT see a trailer, read a story about it or listen to a friend tell you about it.

I knew nothing about it.... and I was bored...

Alien was great.. it was one of those movies where they knew their limitations and worked around it. In many ways it was a modern day Hitchcock movie in that they left SO much up to your imagination

Alien was the reason my girlfriend held on to her VHS player for as long as she did... and the first new DVD she bought after she through the cassette player away.

I still think the special effects hold up today. Only one I make fun of at all is when the Alien reaches out for a hug.

The story goes that when the first version was watched by Ridley Scott and a few others, after it was done Scott turned to the rest and said 'That sucked'. They wound up clipping out most of the monster's original sequences because Scott said 'they looked too much like a guy in a rubber suit'. Which, of course, is exactly what it was.

I was doing a camera installation at a new, upscale, club in South Beach. 1982 or so. Walked around a dark corner and came face to face with one of the actual Alien costumes. Just a display piece, but scared the bejeezus out of me. Face to face, two feet away.

Man, I saw the first one (or at least some of it, don't remember anymore) when I was way, way, way too young. Like six or eight or something. I've never seen any of the others because I was too freaked out.

Maybe it's time to have a revisit.

Alien is definitely scarier than Aliens. I'm not knocking Aliens, but when you never get a good look at the bad guy, your mind starts to work against you.

I always thought that was intentional. Alien was a scary movie, Aliens was an action movie.

And just as a sidenote, AMC is launching a remake of "The Prisoner" series on Nov. 15. I used to watch the reruns on PBS as a kid. And for those not in the know...............

WHAT. no.... no. AVP was a waste of film

alien is 30 ... when did that happen?

I loved the other movies (or.. first three...) I love when they go into the technology of the world more, but you cant beat a good scary movie.

"alright lets see what we can see... everybody on line?... looking good"

I remember seeing the scene where the first alien climbs out in 1985. I was about 5 and it was on HBO. I remember watching it like a grizzly train wreck...no matter how hard I tried I couldn't close my eyes. I remember knowing immediately that I wouldnt sleep well that night, and that I probably wouldve been in trouble if my parents knew I watched it. I had terrible nightmares and couldnt tell my folks why for fear of getting in trouble for watching something I knew I shouldnt have. It was torture.

Thats probably why I LOVE horror/Sci-fi flicks now Twisted huh?

"In Space... No one can hear you scream!". Took my girlfriend to see this... I still have bruises on my arm from where she squeezed. Good thing we weren't watching this at the Drive-in.

Alien was awesome. It revolutionized the modern alien badguy. I'm not sure anyone has made a "bug" that was scarier or more intimidating. Serious, acid blood, double jaws, big claws, no eyes, and works in packs. How much more badass can you get?

I wish they would make another that used less CGI and more "scary without ever seeing the badguy" kinda stuff.
