I need ya'll to clear up a musical disagreement my wife and I are having.

    Who's cooler: Motorhead or Metallica?

    Metallica.

Cooler 'now' or cooler 'then?' Either way, I'd say Motorhead...in pretty much every way.

Cooler over the course of history, I guess. We didn't really set much in the way of parameters.

Personally, I think Lemmy alone would be cooler than all of Metallica, even if the only song he'd ever recorded was "Ace of Spades", but my wife says I'm sorely mistaken.

Would there have been a Metallica if there was never a Motorhead?

I think that answers your question.

^^^ Exactly. There's a reason why Metallica plays Motorhead songs, but Motorhead doesn't play Metallica's songs - and it ain't because they're older.

BTW - for everyone who thinks 'Ace of Spades' is the only cool thing Motorhead did, check out 'No Class'. One listen is all it'll take!

To quote Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters " Motorhead is the type of band that if they moved next door to you, your lawn would die"

Metallica is (was) cool. But they wouldn't even exist if Motorhead hadn't been there done that first. Lemmy can dunk over Hetfield any day.

Metallica is ColdPlay compared to Motorhead. Lemmy craps out stuff that looks like Lars.

I agree Motorhead > Metallica with a caveat... Metallica has a stronger more franchiseable fan base.

metallica sucks. so the answer by default is motorhead. but then, the question arises, is motorhead cooler then reverend horton heat?!

Metallica is a parody of itself.

To expound: Has anyone ever seen that horse E36 M3 cockumentary where Metallica has to go to goddamned couple's counseling to record a berkeleying rock record? Yeah. Hetfield's Mommy didn't hug him enough. Lars is the smartest, whiniest, dumb berkeley on the planet, and Kirk Hammett sounds like he's .02 seconds away from breaking into tears every time he opens his mouth. Personally, I don't have any problem with any of their bass players, certainly not Trujillo.

To quote Henry Rollins regarding Robert Smith and Morrissey: "Here's some berkeleying vitamin C and gun. Cheer up."

Haha...I figured that might happen. Better check next time.

I'm sure Lemmy was just being kind and returning the favor...

    No contest: Motorhead.

And I would guarantee if you asked any member of Metallica, they would agree.
