Comedy matchmaking: "The Onion" and Comedy Central unite for hilarity! (with video

Comedy Central prides itself on bringing its viewers what they consider the very cutting-edge of comedy, and more often than not they hit the nail on the head. Now the network's made a move that the Comedy Examiner's Office really likes: they've teamed up with the gloriously funny website "The Onion" for a new series. What's happening there? Read on for the details, my gentle Examiner readers...

Here's some exciting news for all "The Onion" fans out there: Comedy Central's hooking up with the website's operators and writers to create a new series. The story broke today in Variety, and here's what they have to say about the situation:

The Onion is teaming with Comedy Central to produce a half-hour scripted comedy pilot based on the Onion Sports Network website.

Series is designed to appeal to both casual and hardcore fans of sports as well as the Onion's well-defined style of humor. Recent headlines on OSN include "SEC Replay Official Overturns Roe v. Wade" and "Mark McGwire to Teach Cardinal Hitters at What Point in Swing to Evade Congressional Questioning."

While The Onion Sports Network is an off-shoot of the main site, it's just as funny and offers the same sort of quality, hilarious writing. Need some proof? Check out this recent story/video from the site, about a tragic accident at the Staples Center:

    Amen, bro!

The best TV to be had out of this unlikely alliance might be the butting of heads that will inevitably come between the suits of the network and the folks at the Onion.

    Talk about culture clash!

I think you are mistaking Comedy Central for one of the major broadcast networks. Comedy central is the network that shows the South Park movie, uncut!!! That movie ain't exactly short on offensive material you know.

Yeah, but on the other hand they have those dreadfully unfunny roasts of grade Z celebrities. Also, they apparently only have the rights to about 3 different movies, so they run them over and over and over on the weekends...how many times can you watch Beverly Hills Cop 2, anyway.
