I just got offered a position at an afterschool program as an instructor. There will be 3 other instructors who will be covering the technical side of the program, that being boat building. Check out our program here: http://www.bayfrontcenter.org/project-sail/

However, I'm no teacher. I worked with kids ages 6-15 at a summer camp last year, and spent a good 10 hours a week directing and motivating service camp workers (aka kids who didn't want to be there). It was challenging, but I loved the laid back atmosphere of working with kids. They don't care what you wear, they'll laugh if you swear, but if you give them a shovel they'll hate that your there.

Anyone else have any experience in Alternative Classroom Education?

Make sure your shovel is bigger than theirs. Good luck, I think you'll do great! Keep 'em guessing, it's harder to get bored that way.

If you love what you do that will shine through better than inexperience.

    Good Luck!

I think it sounds fun... just be sure to know more about them in what subject you are helping them with- and if you don't, start reading or make up stuff. It doesn't have to be alot more, but just one chapter ahead. ha ha
