has anyone done a drastic and complete career change and found that they love it compared to what they went to school for or were trained for?

I went from being a design engineer type guy to an MBA operations type guy. Not that big of a slant yet, looking at marketing/sales next.

Yes. From being in an office, flying, in the field, overseas, living an existence most would envy--- to owning a yacht repairing and delivering company. IT was a huge change. I became a one-man operation, no company credit card or car; learned A LOT about what it really takes to run a business and much about myself.

Glad I did it; don't do it now, but have thought about going back. Insurance costs are killer, though.

Before you do make the change, try it, if you can, as a part-time PROFESSION. Not making a hobby a job, as I did. There is a difference.

Yep. Went to college and have a degree in human biology/anthropology. I wanted to become a physical therapist, but getting into PT school was almost impossible. So I went into social services, like most people with my degree. However, 6 months into it, I couldn't take it anymore. Pay was awful, job sucked. Got a job in the auto insurance business, and have never looked back. Been in this business 13 years now and plan to stay.
