We’re looking for floor mats that would cover the entire rear of the Sedona with the third row stowed. Doesn’t seem to exist anywhere that I can find. I was thinking of making my own, just by cutting carpet. Maybe gluing the carpet to some sort of backing material (cardboard or cloroplast).

Anybody ever done this? Any tips?

Have one in the back of a Lincoln Navigator with the 3rd row seats down.   Fits ok, cleans up good and the price is right.  No fuss, no muss.

Cut with shears to make it fit I take it?

Yep.  For $20 shipped, it looks like it'd be worth a shot.

I have used low nap "entryway" carpet that you can get at Home Depot/Lowes by the foot. Cheap, durable and easy to cut to fit. Comes on an 8ft roll and you just buy as many feet as you need.

I'll second this. I have a plywood floor and entryway matting in the back of my MINI. The matting is easy to cut to fit ,will take spills and the rubber backing gives it some weight and grip to stay in place. It doesn't fray at the edges either.

I have one of these in the back of my Escape.  Satisfied.

I made floor mats for my old Land Rover and 911 from rubber roof walk pads.  They're bombproof -  thick rubber with raised nubs every inch or so.  Like this:

I've made them out of the thinner livestock pads that you can get at TSC.  My mom currently has a pair of them that she uses to keep the back of her stow and go minivan from looking like a barn.

You could go down to the creek and acquire some reeds, then weave them by hand for that one-of-a-kind handmade look.  Or...

Cocomats doesn't make what I'm looking for.

I was under the impression they'd make a floor mat in any size and shape for the right price. Although the "for the right price" could understandably be a sticking point.

This.  If you sew some hook velcro to the back side it will stick in place on top of existing carpet well.

Another idea is Ikea. They sell the cool kids play mat pattern carpet with roads and trains and airplanes for like less than $1 per sqft.

Would make a cool floor mat. I actually bought 3 carpets from them last time I was there but haven't had time to cut them out yet.
