    The stuff, ran thru a run of the mill chipper, and dried (seasoned) will burn well. Ive seen many instances of traditional asian foundries making a sort of charcoal of the stuff and firing blast furnaces with it (poor bastards had to hack it into pellets with machetes). The nice thing about the chipped and seasoned option is that you can manage your supply very easily...in long shoots, its hard to get a quantitative measurement of the supply on hand, going into the oven etc. Chipped up, you can get a better handle on the energy density per scoop, or bushel or whatever you use, allowing you to manage your operation better.

    What about wood pellets, grass pellets, or corn? All renewable energy sources and even the Sierra Club gives its thumbs up to some of those.
