I had to shave off my beard for a job once, I was a christmas helper for UPS back when I was 19 or 20. I looked like I was 12 after I shaved, and nobody thought I was the real UPS guy. Company policy FAIL!

BTW previous girls I've dated all liked short hair, short trimmed beard.
Current girl doesn't care what I do. Just supportive of letting it go more than being military style.
