I've had the BB and now have the iPhone. Several friends have all the other flavors of smart phones. In head to head comparos the iPhone still comes out on top, while no phone does it all the iPhone does more and does it easier.
I don't know bout no 2 thumb texting that someone mentioned cause I never do it that way, but you can turn the phone sideways and the keyboard is bigger so there's a size for everyone. The keyboard on my BB was a pain cause it was so small.
Not supporting flash has never been an issue for me as I rarely encounter a website with flash on the iPhone. I also rarely find a website with enough Flash to impair my surfing on the puter either. I have flash disabled on Firefox to speed up the connect speed since I'm limited to DSL at home and work. The most I normally find that is flash is a small part of the window that 8 times out of 10 turns out to be some sort of ad.
Something to consider, the second gen iPhones are more susceptible to screen breakage due to the sleeker design. It's easier to drop the phone and hit an edge with glass close by. My first gen phone was dropped off a 2 story house onto concrete, went swimming in my pond about 3' deep, was slung off my car into traffic and was run over repeatedly for almost 30 minutes (once by a city bus) and came out unscathed. My 2nd gen had a drop from my hand to the driveway and cracked the screen.
My biggest gripe about the iPhone is the shape, it's too slick a surface and wants to slide out of my hand easier than other phones. While the 1st gen feels clunky by comparison it was easier to keep in my hand.
I'm told there's a 3rd gen coming in the next month or so.
