Girlfriend and I are doing a Valentines trip to see some friends in Milwaukee. We'll be staying in South Bend (home of Notre Dame) on Friday night, but that leaves a lot of boring interstate between Cleveland and Chicago.

Any suggestions on things to stop by and stretch the legs for?

Not a berkeleying thing between Fort Wayne IN and Cleveland!

I drive from Pittsburgh to Toledo almost every week. It is the WORST drive in the world.

In the Summer I would point you towards Cedar Point.

Just stay under 79 mph and try not to fall asleep in Ohio.

Detroit, Gary Indiana, Lake Erie, Toledo, Sandusky, Lorain, I'm sure other cultural high lights. Milwaukee is pretty cool from my murky memories.

The Lake Michigan shore line can be interesting in the winter

I live in Lake Erie, so going to see another body of water is not very interesting.

Correction, I'm not interested in cold waters this time of year...now warm water on the other hand...

It must be pretty cold if you live in the lake.

The Brat Stop is NOT the best brat ever. It is an okay brat, a pretty good brat, but there is nothing horribly special about it.

+1 for the ACD Museum -- it's a must see if you're in the area.

If you can point me to a better bratwurst; I would be willing to drive near the area to make sales calls and eat lunch there. I am not too humble to try a new brat restaurant.

In Cleveland itself, the Crawford Long Auto Aviation Museum is worth seeing for any gearhead who happens to be passing through. I had free admission with my Case ID card in college, and went there anytime I was bored.

@ Matt -- you went to CWRU? What years?

I forgot to add the Crawford museum, too. Familiarity breeds consent -- I have an uncle who was staff historian and later curator of the car collection -- I spent a lot of time behind the scenes and in a lot of the cars growing up

Wont' spend much time in Cleveland as its more or less right at the beginning of the trip. I'm think Western Ohio, and Eastern Indiana will be a good breaking point before our stay in South Bend.

None that are worth a drive, but there are better brats around.

    Jozwiak's in Menominee, Michigan.
Karl Ratzsch's in Milwaukee (A real German restaurant, it is pricey)
    My own kitchen
    My grill
    Thousands of Chicago hot-dog joints...

The Brat Stop has a lot of different kinds of brats, but there is nothing special about them.

I live in Chicago and I probably have eaten hot dogs at those 1,000 places. Since I took the family out to eat on Saturday for V day; I promised the wife I would take her to Portillo's for dinner tonight for our anniversary. http://www.portillos.com/

One of the best hot dogs, Italian beef, combo, or maxwell polish in the city.
