I've always wanted to form a band just so I could give it a cool name. Anyone else have ideas for cool fantasy band names?

    My list includes:

    • $50 Cadillac (for a blues band)
    • Beans and Wieners
    • Left at Albuquerque
    • Piso Mojado (for a ska band)
    • Oblique Cultural Reference

One of the best I've heard (actual local band, now defunct) was The Ice Cream Socialists.

If I had even less tact than the tiny modicum I actually have, I would name my band the Back-Alley Abortionists.

I ain't real good at coming up with cool band names.

My "Rock-Band" band is named "SCR0TAL ATROPH33." God, I'm a berkeleying dork. I was in a few bands back in the day. Blindside, The Next Crisis (plural...like cry-seees,) The Government Cheese Funk All-Stars, and Triple 6.

I'm always surprised by how few people know what "Piso Mojado" means.

The first album for that band would have to be called "Cuidado".

Also, "Caution Man" or "The Adventures of Caution Man" would be a good band. You could have all the paraphernalia be images of horrible things happening to a stick figure guy. My favorite "Caution" image was on the attachments we had for the back of our little tractor; they all showed a guy wrapped around a drive shaft.

I'm always surprised by how few people know what "Piso Mojado" means.

"Wet Floor..." and no, I didn't have to look it up. I walked around screaming that, as well as "Te gustaria carema con tu cafe!!??!?" for a while there.

Right. And you see it everywhere. Which is why I'm surprised when people don't know what it means.

"You want cream in your coffee"?

Actually, the person who came up with those "spanish" wet floor signs didn't know ANY spanish.

Piso Mojado actually implies that the Whole floor is wet, as in first floor, second floor.

Suelo Mojado is more appropriate, as in, the floor you are standing upon is wet.

(yes, I am a linguistics nerd)

S'okay. I once got irritated with a translation service our company used. Even though I don't know much Spanish, I understand how Grammar works, and wanted to smack them upside the head for not understanding communication basics. They took an announcement and translated everything into PASSIVE VOICE! ARRGH!

No, I don't know the vocabulary to translate this myself. But I understand enough to know that you did a really sloppy job.

The fact that "Piso Mojado" is bad Spanish makes it even funnier for a band name.
