I am surprised this hasn't shown up here. Reader's Digest version is a man came to help out a friend who had car trouble at a street race scene. While there his truck got hit by a street racer.

Street Racer's friends beat and kidnapped him and took him off to make him pay for the damage.

It was as believable then as it is now. This trend of taller and taller tales spread through the Internet must be a psychologist's wet dream.
