Serious: "I heard the bells on Christmas Day" (heard the story behind the song on Glenn Beck)

Frivolous (and not my particular belief system, but...): "Hannuka Song" by Adam Sandler

"Merry Christmas from the Family" by Robert Earl Keen deserves mention here as well.

    I like the two-category idea.

Serious: "O Come O Come Emmanuel"

Humorous: "The Twelve Days After Christmas" (Sample verse: The first day after Christmas My true love and I had a fight And so I chopped the pear tree down And burned it, just for spite Then with a single cartridge I shot that blasted partridge My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.)

And anything John Prine sings is always just fine with me.

Haven't listened to any John Prine in a while, gotta plug that in.

Serious Christmas music: y'all are gonna laugh but IMHO Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' is the best version ever recorded.

No laughing. When I was a kid Bing = Christmas

Best "holiday" music I've heard this year is actually Hannukah music... Erran Baron-Cohen's "Songs in the Key of Hannukah".

    I'm not kidding. http://www.amazon.com/Erran-Baron-Cohen-Presents-Hanukkah/dp/B001FZ0AAY

My favorite "sad" Christmas song is

    "Bring Him Home Santa"

Otherwise, another vote for O' Holy Night, Little Town of Bethlehem, & We 3 Kings

I've worked in retail for so long that I've grown to loathe Christmas music.

    That said, some favorites:

(VERY obscure) : Shoes "This Christmas" (from a 1991 album of alternative Christmas songs)

Vince Guaraldi--A Charlie Brown Christmas Sure, it's a cliche response, but I never get sick of it. It is timelessly hip and cool.

No Doubt--"Oi to the World" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy43I5Ncc_M

Fun cover. The Vandals version is great, but the bass on the No Doubt version kicks ass. Also, Gwen Stefani was still smokin' hot back when this was made.
