I need to put some ballons, arrows and text on a large digital photo - other than Paint what is a good, and free, option?

Will Gimp allow me to easily do this?

I'm no fan of GIMP, but the price is right.

GIMP, although it's a pain to install on Windows (you might just want to try an Ubuntu boot CD, it already has GIMP on it)

Paint can do the job fine though, just be sure to save it as a BMP and then save it as a JPEG using Irfanview, since Paint only saves JPEGs with maximum compression.

Never mind, last time I tried it was a pain but I see it has a nice convenient one-piece installer now.

I've been using GIMP for years. It has worked wonderfully for all of my needs including preparing/altering images for work and making docotored photos of my friends in compromising circumstances. I'm sure it will do what you need it to.
