I was able to get an Igloo 55qt rotomolded yeti clone at Sam's Club for  $170. The Igloo is made in Texas.

I looked at the Ozark Trail coolers but locally, they only had the 60qt wheeled model for $197, or the little 26qt coolers.

Speaking if Ozark Trail vs Yeti, the travel mugs/cups are also very very similar. I bought a 20oz Ozark Trail cup for $7, so suck it, Yeti. :D

The word on the street in the town that wally world calls home is that Yeti sued wally world when they started selling the not-a-yeti Ozarks Trail cup.  The cups are not very similar, they are identical except for the logo and costing a fraction of the Yeti.

Yeti went out of their way to dump on the NRA, then lied about what happened, spinning it.  berkeley YETI.  They don't appear to recognize who was buying their crap.  You can get a NRA sticker now to place over your Yeti logo.

Oh, there was a good youtoobe on those yeti coolers v. other brands.  Coleman, I think.  Near as I can tell, the primary difference is the Yeti has a rubber seal around the lid and the lid is filled with foam.  The Coleman lid was hollow.  The Yeti also had thicker plastic walls.

Perhaps the YETI coolers seem to keep their contents so cold for so long because of all the snowflakes they spend their time around.

I have a pelican cooler and it's so much better than the yeti it replaced. solid construction and will last a week in 60-70's degree days with enough ice.

I have a Pelican that I use in my enclosed trailer.  Very pleased with it.

Maybe its time to get the spray foam out and fill the Coleman lid ,

One thing I noticed last weekend at the Roadster show was how much heat was absorbed from the asphalt in the parking lot ,

If you put something on the ground at 8pm , when you moved it at 7am the ground was still warm , so watch where you put your ice chest (mine was soft sided)  before going to bed

All sorts of stuff like this will affect it. Even putting it on some corrugated cardboard would help significantly. And in the day, put a wet towel over the cooler. Keep it out of the sun. Etc.

Also, add a seal around the lid and some sort of latch (bungies?). I bet you would come close to one of the fancypants coolers. I have an "extreme" I'm going to fiddle with like this for fun. It can't hurt.

Any DIY plans for a 6 pack cooler that will keep them cold all day long ,

Thats whats needed everyday , the big coolers  maybe a few times a year !

Maybe something that was used in the Medical Industry to deliver  medicine etc that needs to stay cold ..........

I have precooled with ice added frozen items filled with ice an put a chunk of dry ice on top. 2 days later the ice is a solid block and if you want something out of the cooler it needs to be chipped out. That is with a 20 dollar 48 qt cooler

In keeping with my earlier post, it's important how you prepare, load, and manage the cooler if you want to get maximum efficiency.

Good tips.

Any science to salting the ice to see if it keeps the contents colder, longer?  It'll definitely make them colder, but will the cold last?

Maybe do that before adding dry ice to the top.  I bet that would keep stuff coldest, longest.

I've used real yetis, and a few knock offs. Last year I bought a 55qt lifetime cooler.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lifetime-55-Quart-High-Performance-Cooler-Grey-90820/850043843

It's USA made, Lifetime has blow/injection/roto molding processes down pat from their other business lines.  For under $100 the quality is incredible.

I really like the one hand opening latches. 5 day trips with nothing but ice cubes (no block or dry ice) are no problem.

Grizzly resistant certification is icing on the cake.

(After rereading my post it sounds almost like a canoe.  No worries, I'm just a really happy customer)

It's funny this thread pops up. One of the perks of my job at a hardware store that rhymes with space- is a 40% discount on yeti. Suddenly, a 65 goes from stupid to almost reasonable based on performace- and the cups are cheaper too- given how much I paid for one big bubba mug at target.

I never would have spent the kind of money on one of these things, that they sell for.  In fact I had just bought a new $23 Igloo with wheels and a telescoping handle at Academy 2 days before I got this.

I went to a regional offroad event weekend before last, and bought $50 worth of raffle tickets ($1/ticket at that price point).  The catch was, there was a separate ticket bucket for each big item and/or groups of items in the raffle, distribute the tickets as you wish.  While I stuck most of my tickets in the buckets for the Warn winch, the $1K tire voucher, some bling LED lights, and what not, as I walked by the Yeti 45, I thought, meh, what the hell, and tossed 5 tickets in its bucket too.

How about that, least tickets I put in anything, and that's the only thing I won.

+1 for the Lifetime 55 quart cooler.  I have one and also a YETI.  Both work very well.

My lunchbox cooler has died. ( forgot it was on the decklid)

Does this thread apply to coolers of that size?
