Like it says, I'm pulling our bicycles out of storage in our shed, where they have been for the last two years. Both entry level specialized mountainish bikes. What should I do to them to get them ready? Also, I notices some small (1/8 inch) dots of rust on the pistons on the wife's front forks. Any idea how to clean this up?

very fine steel wool, make sure to clean them good afterwards to make sure none of the dust gets into the works.

WD40 and aforementioned fine steel wool will obliterate rust.

    Clean/lube chain

    Clean/lube cables

    Check tires for dry rot

    Proceed w/ riding bike.

BTW--a shed isn't the best place to store bikes year-round. If they get damp in the winter, they never really dry out. A basement is MUCH better.
