    Question:

Lets say my girlfriend gets her hotel room paid for her to go to a conference a few hours away. Her accountant checked her in as "1 Person".

Should we tell the hotel that two people are in the room?

What are the ins and outs of mixing business and pleasure on trips?

Wifey and I have done things like that, but with permission from the company.

Never hurts to keep it on the up and up.

Any place that myself or my friends have worked at has not had an issue. They have to pay for a room anyway, doesn't matter to them if someone else is staying there. As long as she gets to the conference and gets her work done, shouldn't be a problem.

The room rate doesn't change for a second consenting adult...all hotel rooms are double-occupancy. If she can stay out of the mini-bar and off the porn channel, no harm done. My wife and I simply split out the meals and anything else that I wouldn't be paying for already.

Spot on. I have done the same/similar a number of times.

Room rate for single is same as double. We're allowed to do that. All other expenses are on you though.

I do it once in a while. Last one was a one day trip from NY to Yuma, Az. 12 hours of flying for a one day meeting? Packed up the bride and took the week off.

I would think hotels would welcome extra guests, couples tend to stay longer and spend more money.

Talk to the company but this is done a great deal. If you don't increase their expenses they are OK. I took a trip to the UK for Work and took a weeks worth of vacation when I was over there. My plane ticket was paid for.. and my accommodation for 1 week was paid(for work duty). The next week I got another room etc..

Its been many years since I have seen a motel charge more for additoinal people. Well except for maybe Myrtle Beach where they have in the past charged for water with your meal.

Usually when I check in and tell them its one person, they ask me how many keys I want. Maybe its a trick, I don't know.

When your boss tells you to travel, say; "oh darn, that's my anniversary. Oh well, this trip is important, she knows I travel, and I can take her out when I get back. She'll be so upset when she hears I will be in our favorite city without her."

Would she notify the hotel if she hooked up at the bar and brought some good looking fireman who drives a Porsche back to her room? Probably not.

I do that with my wife once in a while. It really should not be an issue at all.

You should have waited on more post there, Rusted. It appears you and your wife occasionally bring home a Fireman.

It would be an issue for me.....

the price shouldn't change if two people are in the room vs. 1 person.

At least all the hotels I've been at, it has been that way.

Fire-person. Plus she has a Porsche, are you sure you would object?
