Just bought a cargo trailer to haul karting supplies.

I'm looking for a place to get ideas on how to outfit a trailer, from grassroots ideas to more expensive options.

It's easy to just toss a toolbox in it and go, but I'd like to make it more organized and functional.

Rather than reinvent the wheel, I figured there has to be a forum like this one, but just about trailers. Things like flooring, wall covering (should I paint?), shelving, storage, etc.

Or, if you have pictures/descriptions of what you've done, bring them on!

Trailer is a 6x12 single axle with a ramp door and not much else.

Fold down bed on one side, doubles as work bench. Tie downs for the bike(s). I see people do that in Sturgis.

A salvaged door (like from a house) and hinges would probably be the start of a good fold down bed/bench.

I have been meaning to put the fold down beds in my trailer since I got it. I never can find the time and energy.

Don't put down the black and white square tiles for flooring. The glue can't stand the heat. I end up re- sticking mine on a regular basis. Sam's Club carries a flooring for garages that will I will probably use to replace the tiles in mine.

Cabinets end up filling with junk which throws a lot of weight on the tongue. You have to be religious about cleaning them out. It's too easy to keep adding to the unnecessary junk you think you might need at the next event. Then you put on helper springs to keep the bumper from dragging.

If you put A/C in it do a roof top unit. I bought one of the portable units and plumbed the hoses through the wall trying to save money. Now I get to shuffle the stupid thing around because it is always in the way. Major PITA. Spend the extra money to put the roof top unit on.

Mount something on the wall to hold straps. Other wise they end up on the floor and you will trip over them...regularly. I have two square loops mounted on the wall. One at the ceiling, one at the floor. That way you can tighten the straps some to keep them from beating the wall to pieces.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

E-track is perhaps the greatest single invention for enclosed trailers, especially if you spring for and mount the vertical ones across from each other on the sides. It allows you to slip in some pockets and add shelves (or beds) at whatever height you need, and gives you something to tie off to.
