I am sure most of you have seen these commercials. You send them gold in the mail, they send you cash. Anyone see a problem with this?

How long before someone makes the rather easy jump from, my gold to someone else's gold? Shouldn't they just call it "We Fence Your Gold"?

What a scam. Put your gold into an envelope, send it to us, and after a while we'll send you a check for what we think it's worth. It amazes me that anyone would fall for this kind of scheme, but apparently they do.

My wife worked at a pawn shop while she was in college. She says about 50% of gold sellers don't know there is a valuable stone attached to the gold, so they sell it for the cost of the metal.

An article recently said people lost about 75% of the value by doing this.

Seems to me that you send first with an agreement to get what ever value they set after you send it.

You send me gold. I send back to you One Dollar.

Just another scam preying on the stupid and desperate. The Super Bowl Ad was somewhat funny if you saw that they were using Ed McMan and MC Hammer as spokes people. Both have histories of being stupid and depserate.

Those things air all the time down here. Even my 11 year old daughter said 'How would you know you are geting what it's worth?'

'A (blank) and his (blank) are soon (blank).'

On a side note, most local jewelry shops will buy jewelry or know someplace local that will. They will also value it for you. My daughter works in a jewelry store and has some certification in gold and diamond appraisal confirmed this to me.

WESH 2 News Checks Companies That Buy Gold For Cash

POSTED: 3:39 pm EST November 11, 2008 UPDATED: 5:40 am EST November 12, 2008 ORLANDO, Fla. -- You've seen the ads. You need the money, so why not take a chance?

Send in Grandma's ring or Aunt Bessie's bracelet, but what can you get by sending your old gold jewelry to companies advertising cash for gold?

One commercial on television shows a woman saying, "I sent in my diamond ring from my first marriage and got more money than I could have ever imagined."

Another says, "I got $583. All I did was look through my drawer full of jewelry I never wear."

To check on the claims, WESH 2 News reporter Craig Lucie collected some jewelry and had it appraised at Reynolds and Co. in Winter Park.

Jeweler David Reynolds used an acid test to determine how knows how much pure gold is in each bracelet. One was gold-plated, the other was 18 karat, the third 14 karat.

After weighing them, he determines that one would fetch about $8 and another about $64.50. The gold-plated piece would get only pennies on the dollar and not worth sending.

WESH 2 News sent the pieces to Cash 4 Gold and Gold Kit.

Gold Kit returns $1.01 for the gold-plated bracelet.

Cash 4 Gold sent a a check for $23.09 for the other two bracelets, which were appraised for $72.50.

An attorney for the company, Mike Casey, said Cash 4 Gold is paying only for the "scrap gold" to melt it down. He added a jeweler would not ever pay face value.

Casey even suggested selling your gold on eBay or Craigslist.

You guys are being way too harsh…I tried everything to restore my tired, lusterless old gold…hydrogen peroxide, deodorizer, you name it, but its original beauty was just gone.

The phenomenal heat and pressure required to synthesize lead into gold guarantees it was created at least six billion years ago (probably much longer) inside a massive star that went supernova blowing the material into space and eventually being picked up by the gravitational tug of our coalescing solar system.

But that’s nothing compared to the wear hanging from my wrist for a decade has caused. Nope, those ten years have caused irreparable damage and Cash-For-Gold is providing an invaluable restoration service.

    Give um' a break!!!

I can't get over the "uhhh, we never received your package" issue. I mean, who's to say?

And if you have ever tried to sell a used engagement ring, even with a massive diamond, you will know that the value is zero.
