I went to one with a back problem, and he insisted my problems were from a neck injury I'd had years before. I didn't fold, bend, or mutilate him and never went back. I'd say "Quack".
He was probably right, the pinched nerves in my neck make my lower back muscles spasm. A neck adjustment would give me a months relief.
I find women chiros are better, because they do with proper positioning and timing what a guy will try to do with force.
Chiros kept me working for 10 years before degenerative disc disease finaly got me.

The main chiropractic treatment technique involves manual therapy, including manipulation of the spine, other joints, and soft tissues; treatment also includes exercises and health and lifestyle counseling it is safe when employed skillfully and appropriately.
But i would say you should consult an expert.

I have a long history with the type of problems that a chiro would work on. Here's the bottom line - They can't do anything a Physical Therapist can't do, but a PT can do a lot more than a Chiro, so why go to a Chiro instead of a PT?
because my ins. will pay for Chiro visits and not for massage therapy (will pay for some PT, but only if prescribed by a MD)
so I use both ... massage for maintenance, Chiro for what the MT can't fix... and yes I've run into my share of overcharge/over schedule quacks over the yrs, but I've also found some good ones

My Chiro is an MD. Believes in a completely holistic approach, including advocating an appropriate ongoing exercise regime.
He totally rocks.

My only direct experience with a chiro was the utmost bullE36 M3. He convinced my wife that "Neuro Modulation Technique" would cure her anxiety disorder. It basically consisted of him asking her questions intended to be answered by parts of her body or biological systems while pushing her arm down then tapping on her back based on the arm pushing response. Luckily her insurance put a halt to that.
Now for a different question. Does anyone know anything about "Rolfing"? I have talked to a few people who have had it done and they say that in addition to it being the most painful thing they can remember enduring, that they felt better for years afterwards. As a result of a few years of falling off a halfpipe on my BMX bike in the 80's my right shoulder sits a couple of inches lower than my left. Folks who have been rolfed claim that this sort of body alignment is what it can cure.

I experienced some pretty heavy rolfing last time I decided that Vodka was my friend.

Insurance isn't going to pay any part of it under any circumstances, i'll tell you that much.
