Funny, he didn't have a problem with it when it was on the 'nets, and helping him stay in the spotlight. My guess is he really wanted a cut of the book profits.

I like how the article expresses concern that people might actually think its true that chuck norris's beard hides another fist or whatever.

I think the writer was typing tongue in cheek, sarcasm is so hard to print in the news.

What is wrong with that? When it was just on the net, the guy that ran the site probly wasn't making much money off of it.

It reminds me of the deal Lucas has with indie film makers. They can make "Star Wars" based films all they want, but they can not make a profit.

    Right of parody.

Nothing wrong with wanting a cut at all, but he should just say so instead of whinging about "possible confusion" and other nonsense.

And knowing how the 'net works, he's likely to find all the 'Chuck Norris' references replaced with Lee Marvin or something, while a bunch of all new "Chuck Norris is a Douche" pages pop up.

You guys know that article was from 2007, right?

  • confuZion3

Well, it was from December 2007, so basically, this thing happened largely in 2008. I imagine it is still relevant. I heard about it Saturday, actually.

This isn't the Carol Shelby thing. The guy is protecting his name. Somebody wrote a book using his likeness and sold it for monetary gain. I imagine that if he asked Chuck's permission, and perhaps paid him royalties, it would have been a different story and BOTH parties would have benefited nicely. If I wrote the book, I would have asked Norris first. If he said no, I would have written it anyway and put my own name in the damn thing.

Lee Marvin once punched a Mustang so hard it turned into a Camaro.

Sure there is. This is an obvious parody and is covered under the right of parody.

George Lucas, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford don't get royalty checks when T-Shirt Hell sells one of these:

Chuck still endroses the web stuff. One site actually has a changing set of them he picks himself, in return there is a link to buy his books. Judging from the Mtn Dew commercial, or Dodgeball, I'd say he doesn't take himself too seriously, but as soon as someone else started making money off me, I'd be pretty toruqued as well.

  • Trans_Maro

    March 16, 2009 11:05 p.m. Trans_Maro Reader

I've got a t-shirt with Chuck on it and the phrase "When the boogeyman goes to bed at night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris"

In small print at the bottom of the graphic it says "www.chucknorris.com"

So I guess he doesn't mind if he gets some cash.

... replaced with Lee Marvin or something,

FINALLY someone recognizes the original bad ass.

As for Chuck, to paraphrase Public Enemy, " Berkley him and John Wayne."

He mentions some of the things on the book are racist. Don't know if that's true, but if it is I would be pissed and suing the auther as well.
