That's a very compelling argument against state-provided healthcare. You start getting govt to pick up the tab, and they're going to be up your butt with a microscope. They'll try to control everything you eat, drink, or smoke. Going skydiving? Nope. Can't do that. You might get hurt and cost the taxpayers money.

Not a chance. I see it going the other way - people will do stupid E36 M3 because they aren't financially responsible for the results - it's the health care system's problem to make it better, not theirs.

You're kidding right? You meant to put that in the sarcasm font, but forgot?

This is the govt. we're talking about here.

It's unfortunate, but while my family has a few heavy smokers, the only folks tied to me by "blood" that have contracted any type of cancer...were NON-smokers.

I have a few friends that I don't have to see walking towards me when we are in the office...I SMELL it on their clothes a few seconds before I see them.

Actually, the reason cigs and alcohol cost so much more downunder is because of the socialized medicine, User pays, the more you smoke or drink the more you pay for the medical help you will bring upon yourself down the road.

Therefore moderate and non drinkers/smokers aren't penalized by the abuse of the individual.

No different than in Canada ^^^ In fact, statistics say that smokers are LESS of a burden on the system, they die earlier, and pay HUGE taxes on cigarettes. Why do you think Canadian's bring hundreds of dollars worth of them back across the border?

I just did for a friend, $70 for 400 marlboro, here it would have been something like $70 for each 200 pack. Smoking is basically banned in all public places as well, open air concerts, bars, etc etc. Only place you can smoke inside is at Casino's on the native reserves.

I myself do enjoy the occasional cigar while drinking, so I really don't care.
