Well I was out in the shop getting ready to do a little spring cleaning to help prep for the remodel in the shop and getting ready to build the Olds and found something I didn't expect. See out in the shop my grandpa seemed to like using old kitchen appliances for shop furniture. There is an old fridge that is being used as a cabinet and then there are a couple ovens that are being used as the base for the work bench. There are others laying around as well. Well he was a pack rat and now that this place is mine its time to clean things out.

I was out looking to figure out what all I can haul down to the recyclers to get a little extra cash to help build up some proper benches and the like. Well I found one rather old fridge out there and what do you know it may look rather crappy on the out side but it was still running great. This was great because I could use a fridge for out in the shop.

I also got thinking my future father in law is going to be loaning me one of his spare air compressors for the shop (and a Lincoln welder woohoo) and I need to practice my paint gun work before I paint the Olds. Looks like I got another project to work on. Any suggestions for a color for this puppy? I'm kinda leaning to just black and polish up the chrome bits nice and shiny.

Think flames, but do icicles instead. You know, cause its cold.

Only down side to old fridges is the electricity use. They do run forever, though.

I now have a full size fridge in my basement office. Love it! Plus, it is easily accessible from my garage. Right now it is stocked with sodas, but soon it will become the beer fridge.

Yeah, that. Pop had his mother's old GE fridge in the basement for a long time after she passed away. When it finally gave up, the savings on the electric bill was enough to buy a new, similar sized one in about 8 months.

Oh yeah I am sure the thing is a power hog but heck for a shop fridge I like the look for a beer fridge for the shop (especially once it is all cleaned up). The thing ways just short of a ton so I imagine I could get a good chunk of change selling it as scrap at least enough for some beer .

The thing does need some SERIOUS clean up though.

Crsazy thought for the day: Remove the outer shell, stick it on new(er) fridge, to keep "character"

I say clean it up, blue metalflake "cold" flamejob paint and install an in-door ice maker white you're at it. Coolest fridge on the block!

There's a company out there that is making modern refrigerators that look like 1950s models, although I don't recall the name. They are pretty expensive.

I'd repaint it white, or some 1950s pastel - if you go crazy with wild colors or designs, then it becomes all about the paint scheme and then you may as well have a modern square box.

My son Tim bought a house to re-furb a few years ago. Needed to find a fridge, so went to a Sears scratch and dent center. Found a brand new, never used 1950's Kelvinator that had been a floor model and then put in storage. Pink!! Worked perfect in the re-done kitchen.

Hauled my grandparents old 1948 Frigidaire to the JY when they bought new. JY never crushed it, it's still running in their break room. It's classic.

I agree with restoring it to it's former vintage looks. If you are going to seriously decorate it.. might as well buy a modern box
