You ever notice that the more volume of beer a person drinks per week, the lower quality of beer they drink?

My goal is to try as many different kinds as I can. Regular "piss" beer is not my first choice but I have been konwn to enjoy a Miller Highlife from time to time.

With that being said I will be spending some quality time at a bar called Nicholsons in Cincinnati having some good beer.

I love it when the beer babies go at it. Blah blah blah Microbrews at $8.00 for a six pack. Blah blah blah "My liquid loaf of bread is better than your American piss water." Next time you're in the liqour store, sack up and grab a big jug of 80 proof or better HTFU.

One of the things I love about beer is that it's relatively affordable to get "really into" and be a snob/enthusiast. Not too many other foods or beverages that you can get into the fancy stuff for as cheap.

If you want to try some of the best beers in the world, you can go out and spend the exorbitant amount of maybe $20 for a big champagne bottle. Yeah, not cheap... until you realize what you'd be spending on good wine. A $15 bottle of wine is good. A $15 bottle of beer is amazing.

An $8 6-pack of beer will kick the butt of an $8 bottle of wine. And $1.50/bottle is pretty cheap splurging. Heck, that's cheaper than a cup of coffee.

You need to try some different wines, I love beer but no beer can match a quality wine

I'm the complete opposite. I'm not happy that I have to go all the way to MA for Naragansett. I have a case of the Lager from my last trek up there and a case of the light is making its way home this weekend.

Quantity over quality my friend. Its simply a matter of economics. Also, have you ever tried drinking multiple good IPAs or other heavy beers? Its tough work.

YES! My grand total of Internets is now...100. Woot.

Yea, Troegs. I started out as a bottling line grunt and have progressed slightly to filler operator, meaning I set up, run, and (somewhat) maintain the machine that fills bottles. Well, my boss can do all that too, it's not just me, but you get the point.

And to ye who thinks that wine cannot match beer, I say it's the other way around. No wine gives you full, refreshing flavor of a good beer. All wines are weak and thin and all have that puckering, sour blah flavor.

I'm with you. Plus drinking 12 beers puts me in a great mood. Drinking the same volume of wine tends to make me throw up on people.

At $10.99 per case of long neck bottles Miller High Life is cheaper than soda pop.

Nice! They started selling Troegs around here about 2 years ago, and so far, every one that I've had has been great. I'm trying to remember the name of the one I had at the bar last week; It was a unfiltered wheat beer with a lot of flavor, like a Blue Moon or Sunset Wheat but turned up to 11! It was absolutely awesome, and I hope they still have it when I go tonight. Yoy are a lucky man to work for such a badass brewery.

As a mountain biker, I run with the beer-snob pack. And I do enjoy microbrews a LOT (Stone Imperial Russians from 2009 and 2010 waiting at the house for comparative sampling now, and Allagash makes some of my faves), but I'm PROUD to enjoy a cold American piss beer. They are just good in a different way.

I mentioned on another thread I'm building a full-rigid, carbon fork, 29" wheeled single speed mountain bike. This is about as trendy as a mtb gets. The company that makes the frame sells a stem top cap called "You Are What You Drink" that allows you to snap a bottle cap from your latest microbrew find right on the bike. The "Look at me, I'm cooler than you" sentiment combined with the preposterous name forced me to have one of these pieces on the new SS. And it will be wearing a PBR longneck cap.

Beer is like food to me - many flavors to savor. Sometimes I want wine-braised pheasant with currant chutney, but sometimes I just want a greasy ole burger. And that's okay!

$11.99 (before the six-bottle 10% cash discount) and it's distilled 4 times! That's one more than Smirnoff!!!

Or when I'z feelin' all fain-ceeey - $20 and almost as tasty as Jack...as long as it's mixed:

    I'm just sayin.

For east coasters Coors and Lone Stars were the "Holy Grail" before 1983 or so. Sometime after 1980, Coors became available in FL and we would drive from NC and haul a trunkload back... then sell it per can at about what a 6 pack cost us. Nice profit margin and a fun HS roadtrip.

Then in 1983, the dam broke and Coors was available everywhere. My freshman year in college every single frat had kegs and kegs of Coors. I drank so much of it that year that I really never wanted it after that....

    1. I stand by my statement about trying some different wines, your list did not include one.

    2. If I start listing fine wines I will overload the server.

I'm cool with trying different wines. I tend to limit myself to <$20/bottle. I was posting that list in response to your "...no beer can match a quality wine" statement. Those are beers that I would say outdo pretty much any wine in the same price range. I'm sure there are truly amazing wines that outdo any beer, but for absurd amounts of money.

I'm pretty limited because it's expensive to try the good stuff. For favorites in the <$15 range, I usually like Bogle Petite Sirrah, Toasted Head Chardonay or Merlot, and some good Malbecs.
