IMHO, they are still trying to catch up to the VW Golf/Jetta interior of a decade ago. One reason I have hard time replacing my '03 TDI is I can spend a day detailing the interior and it'll look damn near as good as the day I bought it. Plus, I get into newer cars - usually more expensive ones - and the interiors simply are not as well done. When I go to the auto show each year, I'm an generally underwhelmed by the interior quality of most of the cars I look at.

Went and drove an Elantra a week or so ago. It was already a bit too isolated-feeling for me, but on top of that they told me that while they do make a manual, it's essentially unavailable, comprising about 2% of production, with dealers allotted whatever their allotted with no ability to order to spec at this point. Whether that's all accurate or whether it's the dealer trying to sell us what they had I don't know, but it removed the Elantra from our list.

I haz wun it is a stick and it is fine. It has the most dynamic brakes and steering I have ever had. Not a single problem in 16.5K. I am a happy camper at 40mpg average

I like the Elantra, but I feel like this statement is absolutely meaningless.

Yes Honda builds some of the worlds most boring cars to date...but E36 M3 they last.

I bought a Honda and yes it is boring. Weak, lame, and boring with no aftermarket anything.

But I need to put a lot of miles on it for a very low cost.

No aftermarket for the Accords....but they aren't the CD5 or F23 powered Accords of yesteryear. They are simply what their name states nowadays and that's a people moving appliance. I'm sure you could find some bling and some ice for it lol
