I guess it is a good thing that I doctored the the cats and put out the garbage during half time. Got done just in time for the game to restart

I was disappointed in Aguilera. She's got the chops, she just needed to sing it straight. As for BEP - that sound guy needs to be barred from the industry. The autotune was turned up so far I figured it was an intentional effect, but there was no reason for the choppy levels. The glowing dancers were the best part of the show - and the closest to a marching band when you think about it

Superbowl halftime shows are always a disappointment. That's just how it is. The problem was that the game was good this year, so the quality of the show suffered in comparison.

And not forgetting the words would be pretty good, too.

I really didn't think the game was all that good this year. Hell the steelers didn't even show up until the second half. Their o-line was there all game giving rape a burger ten minutes in the pocket, and he misses open receivers by five yards that's not a good show. If Pittsburgh would have shown up in the first half It would have been a much much better game but I don't think the outcome would have been any different.

I agree the halftime shows are always a disappointment, I got through about two minutes of it and switched over to top gear an bbca.

My suggestion is that if they want to hold a concert, just cut to a stage set up in a studio somewhere and let the group perform. Show the performance on the big screens at the stadium if you want but accept that the show is intended for the TV audience.
As much as I didnt want to see social security eligible groups perform, it would have been better than Milli Vanilli, I mean, Black Eyed Peas.

I didn't grow up with the US anthem (although I can sing the Canadian one in English, French or the medley version) so I didn't notice Xtina change the lyrics. Not that it really mattered, she'd done enough damage to the score that the libretto wasn't really important.

As for the game - sure, slow start. But there was enough tension that I was drawn in. I had no stake in the game (I'm not even sure where Green Bay is, but I have been to Pittsburgh) so I was just rooting for some good plays. And I got 'em. And some bad plays, because you need the lows to accent the highs.

At the Canadian university championship game (the Vanier Cup) in the 90's, the halftime show always included marching bands (a rare commodity north of the border) and the Royal Military College gymnastic team. No, not dancing girls, but guys flying about like missiles. Extrapolate that to the Superbowl and you have something like the Ohio State Marching Band performing while a bunch of X-game snowmobilers trade high fives while doing two-up backflips. Now that I would like to see.

One thing all the people who were oversold can be thankful for is that they didn't have to see the halftime show.

A fellow employee was discussing how he watched the Super Bowl at a local, ahem, gentlemen's establishment (it's actually a fairly classy place, not that I've been there...seriously...). He said he couldn't recall the actual Super Bowl halftime show, because there was another show going on.

We all joked for about an hour how that version of the halftime show is what they should put on TV.

    Thanks, Wally!

I knew I was destined to hell, but laughing at that just confirmed it!

When I was in college, a local bar would get our marching band to come in and play our own halftime show for the Superbowl. In a crowded sports bar. I'd guess only about 75% of the band was playing at a given time, the rest was either drinking beers handed to them by patrons or pouring beer out of their saxophone. That estimate may be a bit high. The big hit of the show, naturally, was Tequila.
