I've been watching this old series, and I must say I've been enjoying the hell out of it. It is packed, PACKED with easter eggs for gearheads and it's fairly realistic sci-fi. It's a little childish, but you could consider it a plus since this is something you could watch with your kids. It's a delicious smoothie of Speed Racer, Initial D and Knight Rider.
