...and all SCDOT personnel. Please stop "repairing" the roads in the greater Charleston area. We really don't want them to be rougher than they already are. A six inch pothole is much easier to dodge than the four foot pile of asphalt you used to patch it. The 456 sections of I26 you ripped up and replaced to fix some 1/2 inch cracks are now 1 inch higher than the rest of the road. We really didn't mind the 1/2 inch cracks. At least they were smooth.

My dentist has informed me that due to road repairs he will now be able to retire ten years early due to replacing loose fillings. The dental college isn't graduating enough students to replace the retiring doctors.

Maybe you should start using "good intentions" to make road repairs. It sure feels like driving to hell every morning on the way to work and I have heard that the road that actually goes to hell is much smoother than anything acomplished around here.

So in conclusion, please for the love of God stop repairing the roads. I am certain that if we just let them return to dirt they can't get any worse than the "fixes" you are doing now.

    Use it or loose it.

(don't you know how government works?)

Keep in mind that there's often a big difference between road repairs done by state employees (ie, SCDOT) and contractors (ie, private companies funded by stimulus funds or other). The latter are held to much, much higher standards, while county/state employees don't really have to answer to anyone

I think the project he is complaining about is contractor performed work. Not 100% because I'm not certain if he's talking about the work in the area of Aviation Ave & Remount Rd. If this is the area he's talking about the contractor is US Construction or US Group.

That's one of them. I know when they get it done it will be smooth, but driving a cargo van over that daily really sucks. The other one is HWY 174 headed out to Edisto Island. The DOT just paved and patched it and it's 50% worse than it was when they started.

you're lucky they're spending the money on roads. In the District we're building a street-car system that not only goes nowhere, but pretty much starts nowhere, and also still hasn't resolved an historical ban on over-head wires!

This rant is right up there with cities that FINALLY pave really pot-holed streets, and before they can get around to painting the stripes on the road...the utility companies are out there ripping up the new pavement.

My biggest "beef" with road repair crews is when they reduce traffic on an expressway to 1 lane for 5 miles, so they can make repairs to a section of pavement 2 feet by 2 feet.
