Sort of off the subject, yet not.

A few years ago, I don't remember when, while shopping in my local Navy Comissary I ran across a few different varieties of Cadbury eggs. Aside from the "regular" creme eggs, there were also chocolate fudge and caramel eggs. They were being sold in mini egg cartons of 4 eggs to a carton. I never saw the fudge eggs again, do they still make/sell them? Anyone else see them? lately?

There is also orange, which I actually really like:

I haven't seen the orange flavor in a few years, either, but you are right...not that bad. And they sure beat the lemon or cherry filled candies from someone like Russell Stover for flavor.

Instructions: things you'll need: • 2 Cadbury Eggs • 1/2 cup self-raising flour • 1/2 cup milk • 2 cups canola oil • Salt • Powdered sugar • Mixing bowl • Deep fryer or deep skillet • Cooking thermometer • Slotted spoon • Paper towels 1. Place two Cadbury Eggs in the freezer. Leave them in the freezer until they are frozen solid; this may take a few hours, so do this well in advance. 2. Mix the flour, milk and a pinch of salt in the bowl. Beat the mixture until it is smooth. 3. Heat the canola oil in a skillet or deep fryer until the temperature reaches approximately 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Check the temperature with the cooking thermometer. 4. Remove the Cadbury Eggs from the freezer and unwrap them. Dip them into the batter, then immediately lower them into the oil. 5. Fry the battered Eggs in the oil for about five minutes. Watch them carefully; cook them just until the batter is golden in color. 6. Remove the Cadbury Eggs from the oil using the slotted spoon. Place them on paper towels and let the excess oil drain off. Sprinkle the eggs with powdered sugar if desired. Let them cool slightly before serving.

We ended adding more flour for thicker batter.

I find the idea of batter-dipped and fried candy bars interesting, but can't help thinking it would be as appealing as dipping some of "the Colonel's finest" in a tub of chocolate.

Think Funnel Cake with a Cadbury Easter Egg inside.

Every year, when the Mid South Fair would come around, I'd tell my friends "I'm going to the fair, if for no other reason that to get a funnel cake." It's been years since I've had one...or even a decent waffle, for that matter.
