Don't know how many outdoor chefs are on this forum but i ran across something just too good not to share, deep fried ribs! I was somewhat of a skeptic but I thougt I'd give it just a try to see if there was any merit to anything other than just a good smoked rack of BBQ'd ribs. But, there is some BBQ'ing to be done! Took a rack of baby back ribs and prepared them by removing the membrane on the back and extra fat, etc. Marinated them in a dry rub for about 4 hours. Fired the pit up to 350 degrees (typically I only BBQ at 215-220 but I followed the recipe). Smoked them for 2 hours then took them off the pit and let them cool. Once cooled enough to handle, I sliced them individually. I then dipped them in a beer/egg wash and dredged them through flour. Once thats completed all you have to do is fry them for about 5 minutes or until they are nice golden brown. Then I liberally coated them with BBQ sauce. The kids and grand kids (my harshest critics) thought they were great. The only downside is it does take some time to get everything done but I think the results are worth the effort. One other thing I did do was to fry whole breaded okra (not diced). That was also a big hit as well.
Caveat: If you have a big pit I recommend taking advantage of the already started bbq and put on some chickens, boudin and sausages etc.

I admire people who have time to cook. Sounds tasty. Is there anything a deep fryer can't make better?

Damn, that sounds like a LOT of work... I'd never be vertical after all the beer I'd drink doing that.

Am I the only one that is thinking, "Why screw up good ribs?"

I love deep fried foods as much as the next overweight Oklahoman, but I can honestly say I'm not interested in deep fried ribs.

I got the same vibes you did when I first heard about "fried ribs?" thinking why take a chance and mess up a good thing in the first place. But having said that and then having read the reviews and then doing it for myself, well I now know what the fuss was about. Give it a try, you might just like them!

I'm buddies with the owner of local rib/bbq joint. Sent him the recipe. I went in last night and made some for me. Darn good. I might add a little more spice to the breading. Makes an unholy mess in the fryer, but worth it.

I had some wings too, those came with celery and carrots, does that count?

Cars can't survive without oil and neither can I.

    You shut your whorish mouth!

If done properly, deep fried candy bars are amazing. Most people cook them too long.

Also deep fried Oreo's are awesome as well.

The last time I was at a sushi restaurant, I figured I'd end my healthy, fresh fish meal with a piece of cheesecake battered with tempura batter and deep-fried.

So, no, there's nothing that can't be made better by deep-frying. Matter of fact, I'm going to go deep-fry my socket wrenches right now.
