The only problem with this is the weight carrying capacity. Will the old drawers support the weight of heavy air tools and BFHs? But, for simple hand tool, yeah, not a bad way to go about it on the cheap.

Not bad, definitely need smaller, sliding trays inside the drawers to hold the sockets, ratchets, extensions, wrenches, pliers, etc.

Drawers are way too deep. Even my card catalog with drawers only about 5" deep are too deep. Dressers don't roll around worth a shucks, especially with any mass in them.

Yeah, I don't see that as feasible. There is no way it will support the weight, and the drawers will slide like crap once loaded. My 3/8" drawer is ~120-140lbs, my 1/2" drawer is around 200lbs, and both are only metric.

Makes no sense to me. The drawers are way too deep, making a waste of vertical space that could be fully utilized with 3X as many drawers. The 1/8" plywood bottoms wouldn't hold my 1/4" sockets and the thing would be so nasty with oil that you'd need the EPA to dispose of it.

Agreed that the drawers would not be good for heavy hand tools but this could make good secondary storage for things like a cordless drill in a plastic case or any other bulky items

Yep... not a bad idea for small tools... or if you don't have all that much... for the mechanics tools that many wood-workers have, this would be find. For any semi-serious DIY wrencher, tho... no way.

I've sketched out plans for a wooden (plywood-construction) tool cart... using very heavy duty bearing slides... but by the time I was done, it costs damn near as much as a mid-level Craftsman box... and construction would be very time consuming...

The Harbor Freight composite tool cart is under $100, and seemed solid when I was wondering the store.

It really made me wish I didn't spend $270 on my Mac one.

They aren't the best for storage, but work well as mobile work benches. I added hooks to mine to hang funnels, bungee cords, and other misc. stuff that is nice to have at hand.

xci, put a paper towel holder and a beer holder and you will have everything you could possibly need right at hand. Except another beer.

Well of course! I suppose an automatic chain-loaded beer dispenser would be possible...although I know a couple of guys who should definitely NOT get their hands on such a device
