Pruett was exiting the final turn on the 2.22-mile Thunderbolt Raceway when a GT car spun in front of him. When he took evasive action, Pruett's car snapped sideways and impacted the end of the barrier separating pit road from the racing circuit. The impact tore the car in half. The cockpit of the car remained intact, with Pruett coming to a stop on pit road.

"I'm a little sore, but good," Pruett said. "They wanted to take me to the hospital to take all the precautions. The TELMEX Ganassi guys stepped up, and we're coming up with a game plan and getting on with it. They're hauling to get up to Indianapolis and get our spare car together, and get it turned around to be here for Sunday. www.grand-am I hear t hey shut down practice to repair pit lane wall all day today .

That corner complex is extremely fast and blind (shifting into or already in 4th gear, and there is a bridge blocking your view).

I never really thought that corner as being unsafe (Some of the DE guys were complaining about it), but if you spin to the inside, you can hit the end of pit wall (which in most tracks is the case).

What I can't believe is that both the GT and DP cars are on Thunderbolt at the same time... you're going to see A LOT of carnage.

I saw Crash + Scott Pruett, and immediately thought the worst.

Phil Hill, then Pruett in the same day, I could not have handled it.

Has anyone ever seen that video of the recent (as in two or three years ago) NASCAR race where a car hit the wall, was beaten to bits, and then torn in half by another car? The car broke in half AROUND THE DRIVER who ended up sitting on the asphalt after the car was torn away from him. He was fine. It was the coolest wreck ever.

Glad to hear Pruett was OK. You have to hand it to modern safety standards and well-designed cars.

MEGA-EDIT: I was looking for the crash at the 2:54 mark in this video.

I'm kinda surprised they didn't fix the gate after the first time that happened
