What's the 411 on Flagstaff AZ. Anybody here familar with it? I found a listing for an entomologist with the UST Forest Service based there. A quick Google search shows its a lot cooler than Phoenix.

Been there once. Much higher altitude then Phoenix, much cooler. More of a "mountain" type area. A lot less Phoenix then Phoenix (which of course is a good thing).

I just put in an application for a job near there. 85* in summer, 45-55 highs in winter. I've had it with Chicago winters. It's where Phoenix people go in summer to cool off. Kinda dry - subject to forest fires

That's pretty much my take on it too. But I see record lows are well below 0, which this southern boy has never seen. Elevation is 7,000 feet.

I know the passes close inthe winter because of retarded amounts of snow in ridiculously short amounts of time. Almost got stuck there in '92 on the way home.

Expensive. If you're just vfisiting check out Prescott; 100 miles north of Phoenix but 2500' higher in elevation. 3 seasons.

I can tell you about the location, the climate and what it used to be like, Graduated Northern Arizona University (MS Geology) 1971, lived there 1968 - 1977, 7000 feet, mountains outside of town up to 12, 600 feet, 85 miles from Grand Canyon, 2 hours from Phoenix. Back in the 70s we had 233 inches one winter (so much you couldn't get to the ski area), the next year we had less than 55 inches and the ski area didn't open (this was pre-artificial snow). The snow is light powder,not messy Great Lakes slush, and generally easy to deal with. Hottest I ever saw was around 90, lowest was around -25 (very unusual).
Semi-arid area so humidity is generally low. I found it an ideal place back in the 70s when the population was around 25,000. I'm a small town boy, so it's too big for me these days, with a population around 58,000 (I now live in southwestern Colorado where we have 4500 in our entire county, and one traffic light).
But seriously, Flag was a great place and still is, particularly if you are an outdoors-type.

Actually I lived there from 90-94. Jim ^ summed it up pretty well. Don't get fooled, I would guess Dec, Jan & Feb. average about 30 degrees for a high. If it has not snowed by Halloween, it's odd.
