The old building I'm fixing had carpet glued on the cement at some point. The carpet is long gone, but traces of the adhesive remain. Ideally, I'd like to put down an epoxy coating & I understand the floor has to be nearly spotless for it to bond. What's the best/cheapest/easiest way to get this stuff off here?

I've scraped as much as I can, but I still see traces of the adhesive, so I know there's still something there.

Fein Multimaster, Dremel Multi-Max or Chicago Electric Multifunction power tool with the scraper attachment.

Floor buffer w/ a stiff bristle stripper brush (not a speed buffer) and a couple gallons of the cheapest lacquer thinner you can get.

Make absolutely certain the motor is brushless first!

Follow with a pressure washer w/ the gnarliest surfactant/cleaner you can find, then acid etch, wash, rinse.

Allow to dry for a week afterward with a couple fans running 24/7 to keep the air moving.

    Coat and enjoy.

Dry ice? I know that's the trick for getting rid of automotive sound deadener.

I took off 150sqft of mastic adhesive(50's style stuff it is like tar) that held asbestos tile to the floor. About the worst week in my entire life.

Jasco makes a product called paint and adhesive remover which is a mixture of methylene chloride and methanol in a semi paste wax. It is water soluble and with a wire brush it will do a number on whatever is stuck to your cement. If you use it do be sure and buy neoprene gloves as the stuff will go straight through latex/rubber. If you start itching you are getting exposed. It was like 25$ per gallon at home deeps. I use 4-5gallons of the stuff, have fun!

A little C4 will get that adhesive right off there.

Thanks everyone, I'll check out the suggested products.

I can see one problem I'm going to have there's no drain in the floor & it's below-grade on 3-sides, and on the 4th side is a wood floor.

I've got about 450 sq ft to clean, so I'd better get to work. Lol

I used a bucket and squeege and dust pan to pick up the mastic and put it into a bucket. You need to use water was wipe off the surface after you are done. Don't decide to do the job during a heat wave either and consider getting a mask so you don't breath toxic fumes.

Final word of advice is when the adhesive comes up the floor will be very slippery so be careful.

You might also consider having someone come in and sanblasting the stuff off, I don't think using toxic chemical over 450sqft is in the best interest of your health.

I was wondering about sandblasting too. I may be able to pull that one off myself, but I have some concerns over the masonry & woodwork that's not removable.

Well I picked up a couple chemicals to try from Menards today. The Krud Kutter Adhesive Remover works really well - but they only sell it in small spray bottles. The manufacture's website doesn't detail who sells what, does anyone know where I can find gallon jugs of this stuff???
