    +1 to infinity.

Do what i do. Make sure your garage is located 30 minutes from your dwelling place.

    Works nicely.

My wife takes care of all the maintenance on her car. She checks the tires, fluids, etc. When it needs the oil changed or other work she arranges to have it done. Not that she couldn't change the oil herself but at age 65 she prefers to have someone else do it.

She will help me with my car if I ask but would rather not. I blame this on her father. He was a mechanic and always had side jobs to work on at home. So she spent a lot of time as a teenager out in the garage helping him repair and rebuild tractors.

Tried that before, cell rang non-stop if I tried to ignore it. And unanswered cell phones add a 2X multiplier to Spousal Rage.

How does that effect all 'sleep on couch' saving throws?

Don't forget the additional motivation needed to make that trip. Or making it through the guilt trip laid out by the SO in making said trip. I have also done the "Quit calling or it WILL be even LONGER." line to get what I came there to do get done.

The phone calls stopped after i answered the question of "What are you doing?" with "i WAS working on your car...." a few times.

Now i just get one quick one when she gets hungry and wants to know when i'll be home to cook dinner.

Motivation is always a problem either way. I usually work 60 hour weeks at work. I have to force myself to do the ~20hrs a week or car things i usually end up doing.

Cool if it works for you. I've had the "I want to help" GFs and some that even knew what the hell they were doing. But at the end of the day I'm looking to go out to the shop and work on cars to get away from things, including the SO. Its just a nice bit of alone time and solitude for me. So while I can appreciate the desire to meet a car chick, you all can have em.

Me too, I like to work on cars alone.

Well, that makes three of us.

Being cast onto the "couch of despair" is preferable to fighting through the "bed of cold shoulders"

I have no armor that effectively protects when she keeps casting "icy glare" except "the coat of indifference" and that just prolongs the battle.

My experience has been that a lot of guys would love a girl like me who is into cars... as long as no one tells their wives.

When she was three my sister dissapeared from inside the hose. My mother was inside and couldnt find her. After several minutes of frantic searching mom went outside to ask dad if he had seen her. My sis was under the car helping dad change the oil, wearing a dress and ruffled pants. I think that was the last time my sister ever wore a dress. This was before I was even born.

This is the same sister that, I kid you not dresses like a lumber jack. My wife and I have a bet going for how long it will be before she comes out of the closet once her kids are grown and gone. She is a better handy man than her engineer husband.

My wife is a driver. She itches at least once a week that her car is an auto tragic and can we get her something with a gear box. Shewants me to build a 97 Porsche with an LS in it like they did in the GRM mag.

I'm just looking for a woman who understands my need for rusty datsun parts...Leslie, have you considered a move to sunny FL? :)

Sure, if you can accept that I have an entire disassembled JDM mazda engine on my picnic table, 5 spare sets of wheels and tires in my basement, two full exhausts and extra parts for all three vehicles in what probably should have been a nice sunroom, and Boyd Coddingtons in the kitchen (because they're too nice to go in the basement). Sigh.

Let's see, my girl comes up to me and says "I have a gasoline smell in the car" Next week, she says "Fixed it, it was the fuel pressure regulator"

I wonder if she fixes Galants? I KNOW our relationship has not progressed to fixing MY car.

She is on my $2012 build team.

    Nice!

My wife is a ricer at heart and loves doing cosmetic stuff to her cars, but hates maintenance with a passion. She does want to eventually restore a car with me, when we have garage space.

Ditto, to some extent. She'll wrench if she has to, but is more than happy to let me do it and just detail the cars. I don't mind this too much as I've had to come in at the last minute to finish something she got stuck on. It's fun to try and figure out how something works and goes back together when you didn't take it apart...

I wish I could get her interested in building a Challenge car as she's good at seeking out cheap parts whereas I have no patience for that sort of thing.

I was totally cool with this until the Boyd Coddington parts, unless of course, they're displayed in formaldehyde-filled jars.

Oldsaw - just a pretty 6-spoke polished aluminum spare, stacked the rest in plastic bags in the basement. Wheels, not the late Boyd himself.
