So, the girlfriend type unit told me that we have a baby on the way. Looks like I'm gonna need a new daily driver/ tow rig. I'm looking for something that will fit 2 adults and 2 kids (she has a 4 yr old from a previous relationship) My current truck is a 1988 c1500 regular cab short box. I'm leaning towards a crew cab truck or maybe a Tahoe/Yukon. I test drove a Trailblazer a year or two ago and they were nice, but I think the only way it will be able to tow my race car is if I find one with a v8.

Diesels, Duallys,1 tons are out of the question. A smaller truck like a Tacoma would be ok, but I've towed with them and they don't like to haul 3500/4000lbs that often.I have a commute from home to work of less than 2 miles and I do also have a 2nd vehicle, which could free up my current truck as a tow only/winter ride. But,I don't think I'd be ok with having two small children in the back seat of my '83 Z28 on a daily basis in the summer though.

    What would you guys recommend?

The Tundra V8 gets the same mileage as the Tacoma and will haul that load fine.

They ride better than the domestics, don't rattle etc... but cost more used and parts are very expensive comparatively. I have a 2000 Tundra, and I really have not had much to complain about. Its an appliance that seats the whole family, luggage and pulls stuff.

Sounds like a used full-size conversion van may be the cheapest/most practical solution.

The Tundra rides more like a Camary than a truck. I'm not saying its a good or bad thing, just an observation. But it does have one of the sweetest revving V8 I've encountered. The back seats of the non-full-four-doors (ie suicide backdoors) can be tight for adults on long trips but perfect for kids.
