    Girlfriend wants one.

Was thinking of getting her a buy.com refurbed Tom Tom One and a digital camera, surely footing myself in the "i payed more than you for Christmas gifts" and that'll allow me to get a cheaper, more meaningful "sweet gift".

I've had great luck with canon powershots. I have a panasonic Lumix now.. it's pretty good as a point and shoot.

I used to have a PowerShot G5. Great camera, but the shutter lag got really annoying. If you just want a small, basic camera, I'd recommend an HP. I had a little 6 megapixel HP that I only paid $99 for, and it went to Europe and back with me.

    I have a powershot 650 it's 12.1mp and I got it at costco for 299 with a printer and 1gb stick.

Ya, looking for something in the under $100 range.

She's not a picture critique, and would only need to print 5x7s

Nevermind about the HP. I just found out they don't make cameras anymore.

I've had pretty good results with the Aiptek brands you can find at Target.

    For Example: http://www.target.com/Aiptek-ISDV-MPEG4-Video-Camcorder/dp/B001G71V5O/sr=1-5/qid=1...

    Good pictures and video.

okay well before we just rattle off a million cheapos what is your price range you are looking at? You have to remember many of the "cheap" digital camera's are cheap for a reason. For inexpensive but still takes good pictures look at the Canon A590is. Panasonic is also making some great point and shoots these days as well. Nikon makes a couple good point and shoots but the good ones are far from "cheap".

I found some good reviews on the $85 Samsung S860.

I'm looking for pretty cheap, but good enough that I'm not ripping myself off. The girlfriend would not be happy if she couldn't figure out how to work a digital camera or lost pictures on it or something.

The Canon mid-size cameras (like the A590 posted above) are like the Civics of the camera world. You can get smaller ones, better ones, cheaper ones, etc. But, for the price, they do what they're supposed to do and are reliable.

A Canon 570 is only a little higher at 129 through Amazon. Ive been happy with Jamies, and my mom has one also, she like its. Crack Monkey is right.

I like it better than our Sony point and shoot.
